The CB Battle--it's a good one

Looking at the position, the given:

Bene-Norman-Tillman is a go

Now I'm guessing we keep 5 or 6.  I think that Zod fella had 5 in his projection.

Looking at the rest:

*Melvin White

Carrington Byndom

TJ Heath

Lou Young

Teddy Williams

I'm going to be watching these guys this preseason as close as the WR battle.  We've got 2 or 3 rosters spots here pretty wide open and most of these guys have sounded like they've been impressing (minus Teddy--not hearing much outside of that likely PI assisting Marlowe's INT)

Heath has floated around some squads for a few years but I've heard really solid things.  Young is in White's situation from 2 years back.  Byndom is back and sounds like he's been playing very well too.   White has proven to be a solid CB with a few shining moments (Closing out ATL most notably) so think he's likely one of these.

(By the way: every single CB on the team is 6'-0"+)

Which guy sounds to have the edge? Or who are you most excited about?

My thoughts--I think we could sneak Young on the the PS and have White & Byndom but won't count out Heath.  This is one of the position battles that will be in large part determined by preseason play.

I echo the health play. That guy is playing like a keeper. Games snaps and ST will determine his faith.

Lou got hurt, until he was looking great even during OTAs.

Teddy is a starting gunner, which is needed badly here.

Byndom- has improved. 12 games on PS and active for real ones, valuable exp.

White needs to wakup and fight. He maybe cut and I had him on the 53 due to starting exp. I heard they where upset with his weight last yr, but he showed up in shape this yr. Still they trying him at SS in practice some.

I think White and Heath will probably make it.

Im a big fan of White. He might have limited upside but he has good size and has been known to come up with clutch plays in the past. A few more years of experience could turn him into a really solid player.

Good.  I like the fact that with most of the positions this year in camp, it's a battle for who is going to make the roster instead of a battle to figure out how we're going to fill out an NFL caliber team.  Especially at WR and CB.  Two big weaknesses last season that seem greatly improved from top to bottom a year later.

That OT lineup though... oh wee mayne.  Still a little worried there.

Based on the training camp tweets:

Norman

Tillman

Benwikere

White

Heath

Byndom to PS, Williams and Young cut.

Agree with this assessment, though Williams was brought in to play ST first and foremost. Tough to see him making the cut if they carry 6 or 7 WRs, and White/Heath/Byndom's ability to play ST could be a big advantage based on what they've showed at CB.
