Convince Me Madden 16 is Worth Buying

I almost always buy Madden with each new release just because I need the updated roster info, players, and team info and it doesn't feel right playing a game that is technically 'dated'. At this point, I'm pleased with '15 enough to consider not buying the newest 2016 version when it comes out later this month.

Is it wrong of me to be satisfied with the new roster updates to have the '15 draft class and the player ratings that coincide?  I usually spend August/September running the current Panthers franchise with my minor (realistic) tweaks in FA and offseason moves. Usually, by the time the real team is in the meat of their schedule, I lose interest in the game because my expectations of players don't line up with reality....haha.

I take some time off, and then towards the end of the season, I'll do a fantasy draft and just pick a sick team of random players and roll with that.  My latest team that I put together a month ago with '15 draftees included is pretty nasty and still in season 1.

Is it worth plunking down over $60 bucks this season or is it same 'ol same 'ol EA?

So my little brother and I are on our 8th season of Madden in our connected franchise on Madden 15. We scout players for the draft, make trades, and have seen each other in the Super Bowl twice. The Patriots have always given him fits in the playoffs, and the Seahawks have knocked me out of the playoffs three times. We play on All-Madden. We check up on each other's stats, give each other a hard time when we see a 4 INT game from the other guy, and actually talk about some of our player development at the dinner table, much to the chagrin of my wife.

Madden 15 has kept me more interested in the franchise then any version before it. It is a spectacular game. We have pre-ordered 16 and both of us are really looking forward to it.

We will see if it lives up to 15, but I've read that they have like a full combine for the draft now which is awesome IMO because scouting and drafting and developing players is what keeps you playing long after "real" players have retired.

I definitely think you should get 16 if you have someone else that would remain interested in a connected franchise with you.

Divide $60 by the number of hours you would expect to play it. Then ask yourself is that a wise entertainment dollar value? I play Madden very differently, it seems, than a lot of people. I play exclusively in Franchise Mode for 30 years. I enjoy drafting and creating a dominant Panthers team for decades. But that takes a lot of time. So my dollar investment value is very small. I get maybe 5 or 6 games every year and it works out pretty good investment and entertainment wise. Seeing as how long most people play games...it's the cheapest form of entertainment out there...besides maybe the Huddle.

This is exactly why I'm still playing Madden 10.  Having 3 kids in 4 years and a demanding job has seriously cramped my game time, and I'm just now getting to the point where my first draftees are beginning to decline, year 9 or so.  Kalil is still my starting center and Munnerlyn, Otah, Stewart, and Beason are still bouncing around the league as well.

I haven't bought Madden since '10...

Of course, I have two kids and hardly no time to play video games now.

But, for some reason, I have tossed the idea of buying a more recent version off the cheap rack to play with the Panthers... Maybe I'm just getting ready for some football season?

I might get Madden '16... in 2018 LOL

Well put, sir. Im a huge draftnik and love the draft. Just when I thought my money was going to FIFA only.....I might have to research it. Not for sure, but at least a little research. Haha.....thx Monsta

The first and last Madden I bought was Madden 09.  I pretty much played ESPN 2k5 every year, and that particularly year I just wanted to play something new.  It was pretty much a typical Madden game for me, so I haven't bought one since.  As a football fan I'm going to enjoy any football game, and I got my fun out of that 09 game, but it just doesn't come close to the 2k series.  To me, it's not worth it.

lol. back before i got married my best friend and i would get off work at the bar, grab a six-pack of yuengling, and go sit up in his room at his apartment with madden '08 on franchise mode. we'd spend hours scouting players, running drills, testing playbooks, watching "tape" to see how to exploit defenses, etc. and for every game we'd switch off, one of us running offense and one of us running defense. we did the panthers a couple times and then took over the 2-14 rams because it was the most neutral team we could think of that neither of us liked or hated.

my then-fiance used to get pissed because we'd all be out doing something and he and i would start talking about our draft strategy for made-up nonexistent players on a game.

i haven't consistently played another madden since. i have only ever cared about franchise mode and they completely poo on it. i tried madden 14 to see if it improved... it didn't. but it seems '15 might be worth giving a shot if you're having fun with it...

I remember my days of 4 player controlled franchises... Like PhillyB it was pre-me-being-married, but my friends and I literally sat around the same console a couple times a week, each created 4 teams, picked different divisions to place ourselves in, and did a fantasy draft to start things off. Then each offseason we all had to scout players, draft them, roll for who had first dibs at offering FAs contracts, had to approve each others trades, etc. IIRC this was back when you took individual players you scouted through the drills and did them yourself.

Those were the days... lol

I don't have to buy it anymore!  EA and Uber had a promotion today where you could "request a Madden" car through the Uber app from 2-5pm.  The promotion was happening in every city that has an NFL team.  If you got one, they delivered a copy of the game to you (for Xbox One.)  The grand prize was an Xbox One\Madden 16 bundle delivered by Mike Rucker.  While I didn't win the grand prize, I'm one of the lucky ones who won a copy of the game and an Uber driver delivered it to my office.  Had a few people at work upset at me because they were trying to get one as well.  Made my Monday!
