6 or 7 receivers?

Coach Rivera stated that as many as 6 or 7 receivers could potentially make the roster.

I really like the idea of 6, as opposed to the 5 we've been carrying the past two years. But 7? That means TE or RB's will be slim this year. I really like the class of young RB's we've brought in... and Lee Ward seems to be getting a lot of love lately. Is 7 receivers too many? Whose the odd man out?

Speculize....

That means that Shaq and Jones will make carrying 5th CBs or safeties unnecessary, leaving extra receivers, or perhaps RBs, to play ST or be inactive.  I think someone like Ward sticking around would have a greater impact on potential TE numbers.

i see anyway we keep more than 6. Ginn is the only one that really plays special teams

D Byrd has speed and has played ST in college. If he doesn't make the roster, he can certainly make the practice squad. Could be a return ace on kickoff given the shot

i like the idea of six. seven would be too many, if i were head coach. too much talent in other areas.

that said, i dont think the coaches think about it in terms of 6WR, 3QB, 4TE,... etc. they probably dont have an issue cutting a guy that would be the 6th WR if we have a DT prospect that will make more impact overall.

I'm not sure why we have such a hard time moving on from Cotchery. Dude is just wasting space.

I don't know how many times Gettleman and Rivera can say this before people actually start to believe it: they really like the veteran presence he brings to an otherwise youthful WR room. And from what I've read he's been having a solid camp. He's not going anywhere this year.

He's also making plays. And 48 receptions last season with one drop ain't wasting space. My question mark WR is Boykin. He had a good season with the Packers in 2013 but had a groin injury last year and got bumped out by Davante Adams. He's got a hard climb to make our roster this year.
