Rookies Report

I saw TD coaching up Shaq a good bit. During LB drills Shaq was lining up against Glanton so I think they are the 2 frontrunners to start next to Luke and TD. Shaq looks big enough for LB and definitely bigger than a safety should be.

Funchess is a tall man. Funchess looked to get more run with the 1s than Bersin or Corey Brown. Looked to have good chemistry with Cam already but Cam looked pretty good generally so could just be a good day for Cam.

Those were the 2 rookies I was really watching. And Artis-Payne really didn't stand out to me amongst our deep rb group.

truth. A few notes.

Shaq looks great, fast and strong, good hands too in drills but still no pads so its hard to judge LB with no pads.

Funchess was quiet and didn't really show anything great yet. He got pushed around some ,didn't catch much either, outside of individual drills with no coverage. Byrd looked awesome as far as fast as poo. That dude can book.

I disagree about artis-payne he looked good with quick cuts and good legs. Todman was fast but again no pads do they can just run run run.

Didn't notice mayo or the new lineman...that should speak volumes.

But again no pads most of these guys look better or worse because of it. Though I'm extremely excited even with the few missteps. I can't wait to see them play with pads!!

Please take this with a grain of salt...I was not impressed with Shaq today.

I know he is a little behind the curve because of the idiotic quarter system rule that held him out of OTAs.  With that said I saw a lot of looking around.  A lot. Whenever the LBs lined up for drills he continuously was looking over at Glanton to make sure he was doing things right.  It just didn't feel natural to me. Maybe he's just learning and trying to do things right but it looked to me as if he was mirroring what everyone else was doing instead of just doing the drill naturally.

Speaking of Glanton, I was sure it was going to be him, Luke, and TD lining up with the 1st string.  But he wasn't, AJ Klien got 1st string reps instead on the weak side.

Funchess...2 blatant drops, now that surprised me.

It's easy to point out the mistakes but the 3 guys I was impressed by were Byrd on kickoff returns and Ward during running back drills and Artis-Payne did really when his number was called.

Again, it's early and they're rookies so let's see how the rest of training camp goes and some presason games.
