My impressions on training camp so far.. Overwhelmingly positive.

Thanks to a detour on my way to training camp just right off 85 and the fact I didn't get off work until 6:45 PM, I only caught the last hour of Panthers 1st TC tonight.. I know it's only the first practice and still lots more to come but so far, saying I am pleased is an understatement.

I only pay attention to what matters the most when it comes to training camp and that is the Offense Vs Defense drills..

Cam oh Cam oh Cam.. Maybe I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but if Cam shows the same poise, command of the offense, precision accuracy and pocket presence during the regular season like he showed tonight at practice then he could legitimately be a MVP candidate, in fact I would say short list MVP candidate. I have been coming to at least 2-3 practices a year for the last few years and I have never seen Cam look this comfortable, accurate and in command as I saw tonight.

The O line looked solid, Cam had solid time in the pocket and while the run game wasn't nearly as impressive as Cam and the passing game it looked to me that it's just because of our run D being so stout. Thankfully, our backs won't be going up against run ads as stout as ours on Sundays.

Again, I only caught an hour so I'm sorry if this is short. Just a few more notes.. KB looked as advertised and 100%. Star looked as though he never even had a foot injury, looked as good as usual. Norman really made some nice plays and has shown great strides.

The big story though is just how good Cam and the passing game looked as well as the O line in pass protection. I can't stress enough how good Cam looked tonight. To make it even better I didn't seem him break for a run once, it was his passing and accuracy that looked stellar tonight.

Between Cam being healthy (knock in wood), our O-line making great strides and improving, and having his best offensive supporting cast, I honestly think Cam is going to be in the run for MVP. This is going to be his best year yet, unless of course we get Shula'd.

We looked good. Someone threw the ball to Cam when he was standing on the sideline and Cam pulled this super athletic body-contorting 1-handed catch. Then did the Are you not entertained look to the crowd. That was awesome. Cam's mechanics looked overall really good and he was hitting receivers in their bellys instead of making them jump.

But theres always room for improvement and I think it's the fact that at times hit appears he lacks a surgical focus. He turned the wrong way on a handoff in a drill and missed the play. He walks around like he doesn't really give a poo sometimes and he's not really dialed in to improving his game right now.

He has all the ability in the world and that can be to his detriment sometime because he doesn't practice like he has something to prove. Seems like he just kinda wants to show off sometime.

On this play in particular the full back went right, Cam went right but the running back (Artis-Payne) went left. Id say that was probably the running back going the wrong way, not Cam.

I was about to say that. There's no way to know for sure unless you have the playbook in hand.

Maybe I just read into it too much and it really doesn't matter for the point I was trying to make but....

It looked to me like Cam messed up because he called the RB and FB back to rerun the play (and waived off next group up.) Derek stepped in at QB and turned the way Cam didn't the play before.

I agree I was there from the start, they all looked pretty good. Some cobwebs and missteps here and there but nothing earth shattering. I only wish I could have seen funchess do more, he quietly was out there with not much to show for it. I always tried to find him in drills he didn't impress. He is new and I'm not worried I just want to see him start to show more flashes.
