Martin doesn't sign retirement papers by 4 pm

I wonder which head case would have been more effective for our offensive line,

Jonathan Martin or La'el Collins.

Things that make you go hmmmm.

It's not like we chose between the two. For all we know Collins could have been adamant about NOT playing in Carolina.

I have a feeling that D.G was sold a bill of goods by this joker and his agent.....that his problems are behind him and he is ready to play football.  Should have known after he sat out after the " bullying" incident that he was a flake. I'm sure the Padrino is pissed that he got hood winked.  Wouldn't take him back under any circumstances.

I think the kid just wanted to play professional football. The sissy we felt more comfortable signing to play tackle is the one that doesn't seem to want to play for the Panthers, let alone any team.

You're acting like we chose Martin over Collins. That's ridiculous. We claimed Martin off of waivers on March 27th, before the draft even happened. We pursued Collins just like every single team did and he signed with the Cowboys. Oh well, move on.

depends. You wouldnt want to show up somewhere abd not get paid. Workouts abd OTAs

He shouldn't get paid jack poo, it was his choice to agree to join the team and show up to those OTAs, just like it was his choice to dick around and wait until the last minute and then blindside every one with the news of his retirement... and even still dragging out that process so that we instead cut him and he gets some guaranteed money.  The whole thing was just a bitch move, and Gettleman seem pretty irritated about it in his interview.

As far as I'm concerned, he received some free access to top of the line workout facilities and nutrition while he was here, and has done nothing in his time with us worth getting paid for.  In fact right now he's done just the opposite.  He's causing the team problems.

Why do you think La'el is a headcase?  From what I heard he was never even a suspect in that crime, he was simply questioned.

IIRC the retirement was at least somewhat related to a back injury he sustained recently that would require surgery and 6+ weeks of rehabilitation. so if that's not a total lie, then he's not really being lazy. just being injured, at the precipice of a big decision, and out of pocket for the time being.

What a worthless crybaby bitch...   Honestly, i never really got excited about the waiver claim because I've always thought he was a sensitive bitch whose heart wasn't in the game...   And if that's the case, then he should've retired after he left the Dolphins.

That whole Dolphins deal was a farce, imo...   He told a story hat would earn public sympathy and wouldn't make him look like a douchey quitter.

Honestly, i wasn't excited about it either because it also seemed to me like he wasn't all that excited that we claimed him.  I also suspect part of the Dolphins fiasco was that he was homesick and wanted to go back to the west coast.  I think he was unhappy about the Niners waiving him and in his typical pussified ways, he debates, and then St the last minute quits.   I hope his career is over.

I'm not acting like anything. I simply asked which headcase would have been more effective for the offensive line. The Panthers obviously had enough confidence in guys like Martin, Chandler to not take a chance on drafting Collins in the later rounds. Many believe the reason why Collins was not drafted by the Panthers is because JR does not like trouble makers/headcases on the team. But here we are, watching a kid who was involved in a bizarre conflict in his rookie year, followed by a short stint with the Niners, and is now "retiring" from the game even though he has not signed any papers to make it official. Meanwhile over here in Oxnard, CA you haven't heard a peep out of the big bad La'El Collins.

It makes you ask yourself, why would we avoid adding a potentially great player at a position of need because of some character issues, but commit to a guy like Martin? Or why is Stephen Hill still getting a chance after his run in with the police? I thought we didn't like to have guys like that on the team?

32 teams passed on him in the draft, including the one that eventually signed him.  as a UDFA he essentially had his pick of any of the teams in the league because everybody would be coming at him with essentially the same offer.  see you say you're not saying or implying anything but then you post something like this:

It makes you ask yourself, why would we avoid adding a potentially great player at a position of need because of some character issues, but commit to a guy like Martin?

you're clearly implying that we had a shot at collins but didn't pursue him instead opting for jonathan martin.  there's no other way to take that statement so you're better off not trying to weasel out of it.  the clear implication is that the panthers could have signed collins but chose not to and jerry richardson blocked it.  of course nobody is actually able to definitively prove that but hey it resonates with people of a certain mindset on this site so i guess you have that going for you.

for what it's worth, PFT did report that the panthers were among the teams interested:

The Cowboys, Bills, Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, Carolina Panthers and New York Giants are among the many teams to show interest in Collins.

you're a mega noob so you do get a pass for not realizing that this was discussed to death on this site during the draft.  then right after it when teams were hustling to sign him.  then after that when dallas signed him.  there's a healthy "jerry richardson only wants a team of choirboys" circle jerk that erupts on this site any time the panthers fail to sign/draft some dude with "character concerns" so if you want that to be your posting gimmick you'll be in good company here.
