Hornets Can't Escape Mediocrity

It's a cycle...we try to "rebuild" and go young but we can't draft. As a result, we go to a  "win-now" mode and sacrifice the future.

Minus the bit I pointed out, I'm not knocking the article, it's truth obviously.

This franchise has a bad history. We know that. Now you can either live in that history, and allow it to define you, or you can move forward.

I'm sorry, but anyone still moping around at this point about passing on Justice Winslow might need to get their life in order.

I'd rather be optimistic, and no I don't mean absurd expectations about winning, like a complete homer. Just being competitive.

I agree there's no point in moping over moves like passing on Winslow but you can only be cautiously optimistic because of our track record.

Oh absolutely. Cautiously optimistic is basically where I'm at.

Football season, and basketball season are around the corner. Why waste the next few months being bitter?

poo, I'm gonna enjoy myself.

Credit to you for your optimism.

I was optimistic heading into this offseason tha they could dump Lance, make some small signings and, with the progress from the young players and Lance out of the picture they could pick up right where they left off with another top ten pick in tow.

So what did they do? Completely overhaul the roster because Golden State won a championship over LeBron and scrubs.

I'd be more optimistic if there appeared to be any semblance of a plan, but as I said earlier, it appears we just go with the flavor of whatever worked the previous season instead of establishing our own identity and building a young team and team culture. That's what troubles me the most in all this, and until that changes this franchise will never have any sustained success.

And I WAS enjoying things until Zach Lowe had to open these wounds and fill them with salt. Blame him! Haha.

Well I guess eventually if you keep throwing poo at the wall, something has to stick, lol.

The Lance signing is one of those things that most people were heavily on board with, it just completely went south in the worst possible way. I figure we've got to be due some good karma for at least the next year off that fiasco alone, right?

Good grief, this place is like a suicide hotline.

You can't live in the past forever. We're due some good luck.

You mean like a dynamic two way player with fantastic upside and already having a decent amount of polish for a freshman falling to us in the NBA draft?

Is that Duke homerism for "tiny SG that can't shoot or handle the ball well"?

Well if that's the way you look at it you're gonna be pretty miserable. To each his own.

The Browns, and Raiders have been pure ass for decades. We only became the Hornets last year. The Bobcats were poo from the beginning to the end. I look at it as a fresh start.

The disparity in the NBA isn't a problem with just Charlotte though. There are way too many bottom feeder teams. That speaks to a larger problem with the talent pool, which goes back to the stupid draft lottery.

naw, im hopeful we get in the playoffs this year- the squad they have put together really interests me. But waiting around for 'luck' to fall our way just because we a due- it's gonna be a long wait.

You gotta go out an make it happen and not rely on luck

Oh, I agree with you then.

My comment about being due some good luck wasn't meant to be taken completely serious. Just trying to brighten the situation with a little humor.

The only way I see them being a playoff team is if Kemba plays well all year, Batum returns to his solid form, and Frank balls out.

Ultimately, this team has the pieces to score some points but nobody that's a killer scorer.  And I think it is fair to say that they don't plan to play much defense.

Weirdly enough, it will likely be the second string that wins games for the Hornets.  Lin, Lamb, Frank, Hawes, etc are all players that have the possibility of lighting it up.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
