NFL: Mind-blowing stats for the Carolina Panthers

Top QBs of Rushing TDs

Since entering the NFL in 2011, only Arian Foster (34), Adrian Peterson (34), and Marshawn Lynch (48) have more rushing touchdowns than Cam Newton’s 33. Those 33 rushing TD are the most for a quarterback in his first 4 seasons in NFL history.

The Rushing Twins

Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are 1 of only 6 sets of teammates in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards apiece in the same season, doing so for the Panthers in 2009. The other duos: Brandon Jacobs & Derrick Ward (Giants, 2008), Warrick Dunn & Michael Vick (Falcons, 2006), Kevin Mack & Earnest Byner (Browns, 1985), Franco Harris & Rocky Bleier (Steelers, 1976), and Larry Csonka & Mercury Morris (Dolphins, 1972). DeAngelo Williams departed for Pittsburgh this off-season, leaving Jonathan Stewart as Carolina’s featured back.

World Bowl Hero

Before he was a Super Bowl hero, Jake Delhomme was a World Bowl hero. Featured in a two-quarterback system with Pat Barnes, Delhomme was part of the 1999 World Bowl champion Frankfurt Galaxy. In the Galaxy’s 38-24 win over the Barcelona Dragons, Delhomme went 9 of 14 for 126 yards and 1 touchdown. With the collapse of the NFL Europa in 2007, Delhomme is the only quarterback ever to throw a touchdown in both a World Bowl and a Super Bowl.

This is the best one. Also the only really mind-blowing one.

Only three times since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978 has a team’s leading passer thrown for fewer than 1,000 yards. The last team to do so was the 2007 Panthers, who finished 7-9 with Vinny Testaverde posting a team-high 952 passing yards. Others QBs to play for the Panthers that season included Matt Moore (730 yards), David Carr (635 yards), and Jake Delhomme (624 yards). The other teams with a leading passer under 1,000 yards are the 2005 49ers (Alex Smith, 875 yards) and the 2004 Chicago Bears (Chad Hutchinson, 903 yards).
