USA Today Panthers Preview

Preston Smith... I wanted that guy to end up a Panther BAD.  Easily my favorite defensive player from this draft.  We'll see how he turns out.

Though, I think the Redskins are gonna try to play him as a 3-4 OLB.  Not so sure about that.  The guy seems like a prototype 4-3 DE IMO.  Not sure he has the ability to play in space.

Preston Smith had a first round grade by Gettledawg

I know the Panthers loved him and I hope he turns out to be the second coming of TD, but man, I was really wanting Preston Smith at #25.  I knew the Shaq pick was coming, but I was hoping.

Oh well, I hope Shaq is a monster.

Mike Shula, creative???? I'll believe that when I see it

3rd and 1... everyone go deep!  No checkdown routes!  They'll never see it coming!

With Kuechly in line for a big extension, his outrageous cap hit, and the certainty the Panthers draft a DE or two in the next draft, there's a great chance they cut Charles Johnson next offseason.  J-Stew is another cut candidate.  At that point the only Hurney contract left on the books is Kalil.  Probably the only player Hurney re-signed that was worth his deal.  Easily a top 5 center in the NFL right now.

All the previews make me think. If you could pick any team... is there a better duo of anchors for each side of the ball. Kuechly and cam has to be top 5 as of right now. My logic is we have a top 15 (guaranteed) and more likely a top 10 qb while having a top 10 defensive player in the league. I'm hard pressed to find a team with 2 potential superstars with one being on each side of the ball.

If Kony Ealy came take the next step the whole team takes another step" hes the future right now.. He gets to choose our first round draft' depends on his production" Even with a choice coming with CJ extension or not depends on Ealy getting pressure to free up CJ to get production early in the season instead of the late burst again"

On offense ill go with Ed ' he showed up big time once he was able to run routes freely without blocking' He was unstoppable in the last couple games, hes a monster and mismatch for defenses.. Especially when eyes are on KB,Fun2Watch,Olsen, Stew out the backfield and Cam ability to run" Wideopen all-day" thats why they signed him for multiple years!! The coach found something unstoppable

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
