Kepler discovers Earth sized planet in habitable zone...

On a serious note nothing makes me appreciate the miracle that is humanity like the vastness of space. I posted a demonstration of just how immense our solar system is compared to us about a week ago in the Pluto thread. I believe there is life out there somewhere, but as soon as I start thinking they're knocking on our door I just can't get past the logistical difficulties of space travel for complex life forms. And btw, we fug this planet up and destroy each other, the only thing I'm going to be thinking is how intelligent life can be so stupid. That we're the only evidence of intelligent life that we know of and we blew it. There's only one earth, nowhere to go if this one gets destroyed.

 

I dunno, I contemplate this and then I check my news feed and see people complaining about 15 dollar an hour McDonald's jobs. I'm like, "you asshats..."

it's hard to imagine other life forms not also being equally dumb as fug unless they evolved so many years ago that they've eradicated stupid bullshit (or just established some kind of unbreakable hold on their planet or whatever)

To me this has always been about humans having a "what can I do for me and mine" mentality as opposed to a "what can we do for us" (collectively)...   we may eventually get there, but will it be too late, Idk?

 

I can say that I think discovering other habitable planets out there and/or life out there may help us as a species to achieve the goal of not dying out on our home planet.

It's depressing to think about...one million years from now or so some advanced alien species might look at Earth which resembles current Mars, and they'll speculate what might have been here.
