Sure you lose the advantage of being more game ready for the next game, but you don't run into the risk of injury in the extra game and, more pressingly, you don't run the risk of losing and not even be given the chance to be rusty in the divisional game.

I hear what you are saying, and I agree that we came off the last bye rusty as hell. Only problem is that if we don't have the bye we aren't playing at home in the playoffs (I think). Playing at home in the playoffs trumps any worry of possibly losing our fire and drive to win. I'm picturing the Big Cat in the stands at home for the playoffs and I hope our team is keeping that in mind as well.

Coming off the bye, the Oakland game only looked bad because Delhomme was absolutely terrible in that one, I think the fact that we walked out of there with an 11-point win said alot about the running game and the defense.

I also think it would be a little easier to get the players blood pumping if they were to face a Vikings or Falcons squad at home than, say, an Oakland squad after a long flight out.

Technically there is a "bye" week before the superbowl if I am not mistaken. ..so If you want to "fear" any off week, that should be it. Right about now, it's either we go for the bye week and #1 seed, or possibly face going playoff-less by chance.
