A beer at lunch....acceptable?

Recently I took a client out for lunch. He ordered a beer, so I also ordered a beer. As an outside sales rep, I don't  necessarily have to worry about smelling like booze for the rest of the day, but this guy goes back to his office and I am sure people can smell it on him!?  

My question is this.  In the professional world, is it acceptable to enjoy ONE beer over lunch?

I honestly don't see anything wrong with it. It was just a beer with a client. Now 4-5 beers may have been frowned upon lol

Jase is spot on. Some companies I know even supply beer, especially on Fridays. If I'm a pilot, surgeon, etc.....pretty sure it is frowned upon and hopefully against company policy. Sales, some guy/gal in an office environment....I don't think most places have an issue with a beer at lunch.

Unless you're a Chinese female gymnast, 1 beer won't really affect you. As long as you follow the client's/boss's lead, you're fine.
