Seriously...What's the deal?

Ah, the disbelief about the slings & arrows coming our way this year. It is true that they are a little sharper this time. But, IMO, you can thank Gettleman for that. So many have been waiting since he was drafted for Cam to go GIII bust. Instead, he plays through injuries that would ground any other QB except Rodgers, Brady, or PManning. He quietly signs a contract that is as good for the team as it is for him, thanks to Gettleman. Gettleman also extends contracts for other key players, Olsen & Davis. And methodically fills holes on our roster all while sticking to his plan. He has brought sanity to the insane game of NFL football in Charlotte. And the national sports media can not handle it.

I think it has a lot to do with the Panthers never having true back to back successful/winning seasons.

Last year we had a lot of bad luck involving injury and started off the year with a lot of talent chillin on the bench. We, especially Cam, had a lot of adversity that doesn't need listing. The Falcons and Saints have proven that they can put together back to back winning seasons.

However, it has to be partly laziness. If not that then some ignorance on the media's part. We were not the same team midway thru the year that we were at the beginning. We destroyed the Falcons and Saints, and over the offseason we got QUIETLY better. So quiet Infact, that even the media didn't hear it......believe it or not.....

The fact is that Cam is an easy player to hate. People simply don't like his personality because he's confident and believes in his abilities. He's not the tow the line, say everything you want to hear in interview type of guy. Cam wants to dominate and put on a show. It makes the game fun which is what I love about him and I think his personality is good for this team. We need ego and we need pride. Cam has it.

Of course then you have lazy critiques of Cam. Calling him a running QB. A guy that just relies on his arm and legs. Bunch of bullsht. Cam Newton is a pocket passer with the ability to run. He is actually really good under center and dropping back. Haters also don't like to take into account the adversity he has faced and the lack of talent that has surrounded him the majority of his career. It's a factor whether they like it or not.

At least Cam is himself and not a fake mother fugger like Russell Wilson.

2003. Panthers almost survive to win the Superbowl.

The media was all over the Panthers following our hurtful loss to the Patriots.

Everybody loved the Cinderella Panthers.

Majority of the media was predicting the Panthers would get back to the big Game, and win it!!

Injuries plagued the Panthers, and it was to much to overcome.

The general media has never rooted for the Panthees since.

scared bitches afraid to go out on a limb.

Simple really, people are lazy.  When its time to do a peice on the panthers, writers just copy and paste what the last dude did.

Even simpler really.  Prisco, King, Banks (insert tool name here....) are not that unlike huddlers.  They like Pie.

I always try to take a nanosecond to put myself in other's places before criticizing.  If I'm a sportswriter in the Winter that is known as "July in the NFL" and I want Pie.... do I write facts about a small market team like the Panthers overcoming wholesale changes to OL and Secondary to make a remarkable comeback to win the division again?  Do I write about a young, brash QB that celebrates first downs and is universally hated by 13 out of 14 SEC Football markets?  Do I write about a head coach that has been on and off the hot seat for 3 seasons and has the doofiest spec's known to man?  Do I write about an organization more devoted to vanilla than Ben and Jerry's?

Or do I write a 3 pager on the potential of RGIII?

Which piece gets more Pie?

So, lets fast forward to the draft and free agency. We suffer no losses in free agency and we replenish the squad with a solid draft and smart/cheap signings. Looks like we have an even better roster than the 2013 team that went 12-4, right? Ho ho ho hold the fug on, apparently not. The general consensus is that the Panthers will be a bottom 7-8 team. Cam is garbage and we have no depth or talent... At least that's what every MSM writer has to say about us. Everyone is use to the general hate we get from the media expecting us to finish 8-8 or something awful like that, but this is a NEW level of hate. What's the fuging deal? is it Cam? Can the racist media not handle our sexual man chocolate of a QB?

how the media sees it:

1. cam isn't accurate enough to lead the offense

2. offensive line is suspect outside of kalil (particularly the LT)

3. questionable draft (another LB instead of LT? reaching for Funchess?)

Great post!!

The only thing I'll add is (to your first paragraph): I don't think Cam's any more confident (or less), than any other NFL QB, based off his actions.

Actually, Cam's quite the team player (not stating, you're saying he isn't).

Never heard him criticize his players, coaches, management, or ownership ( even when he had a right to do so) his entire tenure with the Panthers.

So though Cam's supremely confident and outgoing..... He almost always says the right thing concerning his teammates, coaches and management. And he never makes himself the center of attention (whether the media wants to make him or not),  or the hero.

Newton, always critiques himself, admits his mistakes, and want's to get better/take responsibility (even when it's not really his fault).

Can't always say that about the Colin Kaepernick's, Russell Wilson's, RG3's, and other NFL QB/Players of the world.

Yes, the media's got Cam, mostly all wrong!!

PS to above: Meant to say, "Cam's really not that "easy to hate" at all IMO.

That's all the media portrayal of him.

He's actually quite a likeable guy/player, based off what he says and does, on and off the field since he's been in Carolina.

Media, continues to play off old stereo-types, doesn't like him for whatever reason, and/or feels the need to make stuff up or regurgitate the Same Ole Same Ole, since the overwhelming majority of them don't follow the Panthers in the least.
