I'm not worried. We actually don't  have very many big money contracts on defense right now, and knowing Gettleman, he won't allow our defense to get old 

this is spot on.

gettleman will continue to infuse good young talent on D from the draft and let vets go when the time is right.  This is the way good teams stay that way for the long haul.

If anything, we should be able to upgrade. Charles Johnson's salary is crippling the defense.

Yep.  By 2017, Hurney-era contracts like Jonathan Stewart and Ryan Kalil will be off the books.  As it stands the Panthers have $81m set in cap space in 2017, with the cap likely to jump up.
