So Spartanburg is More Miserable than the Piedmont of NC in July?  or is it just because there are no trees, shade, or amenities around?

It's comparable, but it'll be warmer and more humid feeling. There are only trees on one side of the field IIRC but the way the sun beats in there is no shade provided from them.

 

I didn't think it could get worse than July/August in Central NC, but it can.
