Hardy sentence reduced, we're getting a comp pick

Did we lose more free agents than we gained? We may not be eligible for comp picks at all.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is currently correct.  I have the Panthers gaining as many UFAs as they lost, which would only give them a net-value 7th that's way below the 32 pick limit:

In order for the Panthers to get a 3rd for Hardy, they'd have to cut at least one of their UFAs gained before Week 10 (Charles Tillman, Kurt Coleman, Jason Trusnik).  And there's a good chance that James Dockery won't qualify in their favor, and if so that means two of those three would have to go.  As it stands right now I would not be counting on the Panthers to get any comp picks for 2016.

I think we will be surprised by who gets cut.

With Mayo drafted I'm not sure Trusnik is entirely likely to stay. Dockery is an unknown but if he stays then we could have a chance. Based on reports I see Tillman and Coleman both not only staying on the roster, but playing significant roles.

Because he signed for the veteran minimum, Dockery would not only need to stay, but would also need to play a significant amount of the snaps in order to qualify.  Then again, he is on the Raiders so perhaps he has a better chance of doing so there than on other rosters...

I seem to recall a thread popping up awhile back that said we likely won't be.

If I'm thinking of the right thread it was horribly misinformed. Seemed to think its a 1 for 1 basis so if for example the Patriots lost Tom Brady and Gronk to FA and signed two benchwarmers they wouldn't get comp picks. I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. It seems to work on a cumulative figure of contract, playing time and possibly accolades like the Pro Bowl (though that last one I'm not sure about). No one we signed would offset Hardy at two games and we'll still probably have a positive balance with Hardy at four.
