Morons vs Geniuses

Costas can eat a bag of dicks.

Cosell is always my favorite read.

I like the dudes at Rotowork a bunch.

I really can't read anything from ESPN, NFL, SI, CBS, or Yahoo.  They are so inept ititerally hurts my brain to read or listen to their analysis.

In general though, I like Gil Brandt. Even if we have the same odds as winning the SB as the browns.

PanthersUnited knows his poo. Definitely in the genius category.

As a moron or genius? I've never actually heard him on the radio because I'm not from Charlotte, but I would bet he knows more about football than a great deal of people in the media.

Good media personality, very knowledgeable and connected.  poo GM.

Brandt is good, Peter King is trash. If Charles Davis is a candidate he's almost as bad as King. There's a few more good ones out there that I can't recall the name of at the moment but not many others to one extreme or the other. Most are simply ignorant in anything dealing with smaller markets/ less nationally popular teams (threw that in there for the small market teams like GB that are still nationally popular).

None of them are genius, IMO.

There certainly are those that are much more knowledgeable about the game, and are much easier/better to listen to/read.

Like anything, regardless of their knowledge, still gotta take their opinion for what it is, an opinion.

Radio

Gill Brandt is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to football. During the draft  he will have callers. Ask him about some obscure guy from Podunk college and he will quote stats, numbers and anecdotal stories about the guy . I like the guy and that  is saying something since he worked for Dallas and I hate Dallas. Didn't really listen that much until recently because he was a Dallas homer.

Pat Kirwin- as a former GM with the Jets, he can give you the front office perspective as well as anyone. Plus he watches ton of film. He has a good book on watching football by taking your eye off the ball.

jim Miller- he has some good insight into quarterbacks and game planning. Don't agree much of his team picks because he overvalued the QB position but an a quarterback analyst he is very knowledgeable. Rich Gannon no so much but he does have good insights at times.

Louis Riddick is smart. I like Jaylen Rose because he says things without regard for perception. I love Dan LeBatard but because he does things on the radio that is interesting. Cowherd is usually spot on with his big picture views. Bomani jones is good too. I guess the common thread there is honesty. They all come across as honest and don't give coach speak for lack of a better term.

the only actual genius I think is LeBatard. But it's not for his analysis. It's for his mastery of the medium.

From a player perspective I like Herm Edwards, from a coaching perspective not so much, or even an evaluator for that matter.  Herm was a players coach and understands the locker room and the mentality of the game. Execution is his downfall. I like listening to him.

In the same vien, I don't mind listening to Mike Golic talk about the NFL for some of the same reasons.

There are obvious exceptions to this rule....Mark Schlreth (sp?)....ugghhh.

I like listening to guys who have "been there done that".  Not that any of them are geniuses.

    • I would understand it--especially if DJ Johnson, Barno, and Wonnum finish strong.  Graham, however, might not be the best fit for Carolina with Brown back.  Our DTs have underperformed (Tuttle, Robinson) and they can be cut and save about $13m, or one can be cut and save $6.5m.  Who might be a better fit than Graham?   Maybe the guy beside him--Graham's sidekick, Kenneth Grant, is also a beast.  You could argue that he benefited by playing with Graham, just as he would in Carolina beside Brown.  However, teams like to double the big NT/3 tech, and if you do that, you get Browned.  Grant is a 340 lb DT who has 3 sacks this year--against Ohio State, Saturday, he had 5 QB pressures--and he has been doing that all year.  They could not block him.  If you want a player who compliments Brown (as opposed to rotating in with him) I would take a long look at Grant--in round two if he is there--after drafting an Edge in round 1.  In my view, THAT would solve the running game issues and give us pocket collapsing pressure up the A gap.  There is also a DT from Kentucky I like in this role, but Graham is good.
    • He is a free agent after this season. Do you want to pay him like a top kicker?  He can't kick much from past 50 yards.
    • I don't know how anybody watches this team this season and has this take.  We are miles better than we were week 1.    If we were slightly better he would be in serious contention for coach of the year, and he should be. My only concern right now is that we win too much and lose draft position to get even better.
