If this offseason had played out like this...

WOW!!

Complete train wreck last season and won 33 games. Upgraded shooting guard and backup point guard. Can actually play offense this year. Why not?

I'm with you on this roster being improved but it's a very flawed roster and I think the east got better.  And the roster flaws just can't be overlooked

For example, there are only two players that have skill on both ends of the court (Kemba and Batum) and neither is all star material. Kemba is coming off another bad year shooting and batum off the worst of his career.

Al might come and play this year since it is a contract year but injuries are doing him in. MKG's shot doctor went to the College game. PF is a big ?????  Cliff is probably in his last year if he doesn't win, and since I don't expect his team to, he's likely a lame duck coach.

Look, I know it is the offseason and things can get out of hand. Last offseason, I brought up the duplicity of Lance' skill with Hendo while everyone was talking about a 4 seed and whether Lance would really improve the team. And I cringed at the MW deal and kindof laughed at everyone saying "he can play either forward position." And the hornets failure to upgrade backup PG last offseason, along with taking project players in the draft hurt them.

basically the hornets are hoping that a bunch of guys that have been trending downward recently have rebound years (batum, hawes, Al) and I just don't see it. The team needs that McBob facilitator to make the broken roster go. They've got no rim protector, and while upgrading shooting, they still don't shoot well, particularly if the volume of shots from certain players continues on like previous years.

I just don't see an 8th seed in their future and frankly, squeaking into the playoffs may not be the best thing for this team the detonate button needs to be pushed.

Vonleh was a 19 year old kid... So please forgive him if he doesn't get the NBA game in one injury plague season...

Big IU fan here and I watched all the games that season. Yes, Vonleh put up nasty double-doubles for points and rebounds but on a bad IU team, watching him, I was not impressed. I'm ok with the trade bc Vonleh just looks meh

i love how we all assume Vonleh is gonna be better than Zeller.  He isn't even close right now. Hornets fans sleeping on Zeller big time.... this is a versatile and athletic player that can play either PF or C.  He's still learning a whole new role than he's ever had.  He needs to get more aggressive on offense and get more consistent with his jumper but he's showing all the signs of being a real nice player in this league.  He's shown way more than Vonleh has yet.

I still am not a big Myles Turner fan at all.

I'm a pretty big fan of our offseason.  We have all kinds of cap space so if Batum has a big year I'll have no problems giving him a big extension since he's only 26.

He was a freshman doing that.. It kinda amps up the stats...  When it was a freshman having to carry a bad team.. How did Cody stack up his freshman??

He's a stretch 4 who can't consistently knock down a 17 foot shot nor can he finish in traffic consistently or has any semblance of a post up game..

That is a problem...  Take off the homer shades..  They were trying to trade him for a reason...

Don't write Cody off as a shooter yet.  Is 34% good from this range?  Not really, but we need to remember that was only his second year EVER taking shots in this area and he's trying to learn to do it against the best players in the world.

AAAAAElFTkSuQmCCAAAAAElFTkSuQmCCI can't get the image to post but here is his shotchart: http://vorped.com/1-nba/2014-2015/player/1538/cody-zeller/shotchart/

And can't finish in traffic?

Sure, it's not his strength.  But it's not like he CAN'T do it.  He needs to get more aggressive though, he's still way too passive.  So many times he'll get the ball with tons of space to either shoot or drive and he just passes instead.  And I do think that's one reason we drafted Frank.  Frank will take advantage if you leave him open like some teams do Cody.  But Cody is a nice guy to have on the roster.  He can play PF or C and he's really versatile so you can switch everything with him on D.  He'll never be an all star or anything, but in a starting role he can be 12/8 guy.

The problem is you look at frank and the little of vonleh we saw...  And it wasn't as much of a struggle for them as it looks for Cody on the offensive end of the court

Dude Nodidn't  looked like a deer in headlights at times

Noah didn't know how to run plays or recognize defenses..  He was 19 years old??

But one on one Vonleh didn't hesitate when he had a open shot..  He could score in post up situation..  He actually has range outside of 17 feet...  And he was a rim defender..

That is a lot more to work with than Cody has offered...

It's  pretty much the reason Portland force us to give them Vonleh instead of Cody for Batum...

Also back on another one of your statements..  I  like what Frank offers on the offensive end...  But you have to be blind not to see Turner has more upside and day one would have given us a better rebounder and rim defender than frank... While also showing the ability to be a pick and pop player and post up option on offense..  He was the better choice for us and would have given us a better option in the future...

Plain and simple Turner and Hawes or Turner and Cody are a better combination on the floor  than  Frank and either.....

The problem here is you literally saw nothing of Vonleh to judge whether or not he was going to be able to contribute because he really is a season or two from even sniffing the rotation.

This is the problem I have with this fanbase. They assume just because a player is young that they're automatically talented or they have "potential" therefore they should be kept around. Then folks get mad like Clifford has a vandetta against young players or something.

There's a reason Biz didn't play. There's a reason Vonleh didn't play. There's a reason PJ doesn't play. They're not good!

I don't agree with Carl often but I believe he said something in this forum to the effect of we get so attached to these mediocre players because they're good guys who are easy to root for. After so many seasons of mediocrity we have such bad Stockholm Syndrome that we'll latch on to anything for hope, whether it's a Biz block or a player comp for Noah written in a random blog, ignoring the obvious reasons why we never see them play in the first place.

We had the opportunity to draft good young talent multiple times and came away largely empty handed. Time to put some talent that can actually contribute on this roster.
