Gil Brandt: Panthers chances of winning SB on par with Jags, Browns, Falcons and Titans

Oh and I think the Cards are very overrated, Palmer will be what, in his late 30s coming off an injury and hes not even Peyton Manning to begin with. We shredded their D in the playoff game as well, both on the ground and through the air. They are your textbook pretender team

I LOVE it.

Our defense is coming together without a dominant pass rush (a FS away from being the best defense in the NFL) and our offense is slowly but surely getting stronger (lack a LT and a #2 TE).

Get ready to eat crow, pundits.

The Safety Situation might be better than you think. Our only weaknesses are LT and the team beating themselves.

Just goes to show how lazy this rankings is.

All Brandt focuses on is the losing record last season. He doesn't care to notice why the games were lost, when they were lost and how the team has improved since those loses.

How many people can you find outside the Panthers fanbase that take us seriously as a contender right now?

And frankly, given the team's inability to sustain success over their history, why should they?

There's a reason why people look at the Panthers as a team that will have a successful season every once in a while and then fall back to Earth. The reason is because that's exactly what we've been.

I don't believe that's who we are anymore. But until we can actually prove that to everybody else, we don't have a whole lot of grounds to be offended when someone thinks we'll continue to do what we've always done.

I think thats more telling of how he feels about Cam rather than the Panthers in general. With the exception of the falcons, none of those teams have a QB which means Brandt must think we don't either.

Brandt is one of Cams biggest supporters and has been since before he was drafted

No one is saying we should be considered contenders. Read the article in the OP.

I did.

The point of the article is to predict which of the teams that have never won a Super Bowl have a chance to do so this year. In other words, who's a Super Bowl contender.

Brandt says it's not us.  In fact, here's exactly what he said about us.

The Panthers have made the playoffs the past two seasons, but they also had a losing record last year. I don't see them breaking away from the middle of the pack in 2015.

And yes, I saw who we were lumped with.

People are acting like Brandt said we suck and we'll never be any good when all he really said was he doesn't think we have a shot this season.

Who knows? He could be right.

And again, given our history - including our most recent season- why shouldn't he think that way?

To put several teams without a QB ahead of the Panthers is asinine.

He didnt put them ahead of us. He put them in a separate category. And there were only two of them. I don't count two as 'several'.

Heck, what he actually said about us wasn't really all that bad.
