NFC South Recieving Corps

You have been around long enough to know that if the offense is great it is because of Cam and if it sucks it is because of Shula and Rivera.

or because Cam called his own plays. I was listening to Aaron Rodgers say no QB calls their own plays, not him or Peyton so I think we can put that myth to rest.

not true, he was definitely brought in to catch passes and be an all around TE which includes blocking. He became a pure blocker due to injuries.

I am telling you what the coaches said unless you are the one who brought him in. It's ok to admit you don't know.

Long term, were #1

Dickson did not start to get it late last year because that is not his intended role. He was brought in to be a blocker/fullback and not a pass catching TE.

lol are you kidding me? He was brought in to catch passes. The knock on him was that he couldnt block!

To be fair, Shula does suck ass.

To be fair, Shula doesnt suck ass.  He was brought in to orchestrate a ball control run first offense and when he has the personnel to run his offense it can be very effective. When he is given a bunch of guys who shouldnt be starting in the NFL and has a peach basket turnover in personnel, he is not the offensive genius to be able to take what he is given and make it successful like some guys can do. He can be effective but isnt a great offensive mind  and his offenses wont put up big numbers.  But since he took over the reigns we are 19-12-1  which rivals any 2 year period we have had with any offensive coordinator in our history. And that with often poor personnel as we dig our way out of cap hell.

you know this how? Im telling you what the coaches said and you're here pulling things out of your ass.

bring up a quote then saying hes only here to block and not catch passes  youre out of your mind  look at what people said about him coming out of Oregon

The coaches never said Dixon was only brought in to block. He is not a blocker. What they did say was that he was forced in to that role due to the injuries to Tolbert and Brockel. If you did not notice they both missed most of the season. Dixon settled in when Tolbert returned.

Oh really? Why don't you point us to the interview you're talking about? Greg we know was forced to block due to injury, not Dickson.

Go to Panthers.com and watch the mailbag or panthersmax videos of this offseason. Mike Craft sounded like you bunch on here and he was promptly educated. I wanted to make a thread about it but I just didn't.

ATL has Julio and what?  Roddy Whites old hobbled ass?  Whos after that?  Hardy?  More like Hardly...

Tampa is the top tier right now with Evans, Jackson and if that monster TE ever gets it together whoo boy.

We are as close as you can get to TB right now, unkowns with Funchess and an emerging Brown(phrasing!), Olsen boosts the squad but cant be counted as this is a WR only list.

And finally, fug ATL.  That is all.

1st ^^^ is an idiot, if he thinks a pass catching TE from Baltimore was brought in to block. He was brought in to be the 2nd receiving TE any Panther fan is aware of that.

Article after leaving Baltimore-

Combine Report (Strengths as a pass catcher, weakness as a run blocker)-

http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/ed-dickson?id=497224

2nd Receiver Rankings (and back on topic)-

1)TB - Between Evans, and Jackson they have two premier threats at receiver, who can go up and get it, make plays deep, and block well in the run game. Like Atlanta their issue is depth, but there's no questioning the top two.

2)CAR - Kelvin Benjamin, with the addition of Funchess, the return of Ginn, and Brown's potential emergence puts us a nose past ATL. Many critics/huddlers were wary of Benjamin's 40 time, I don't think teams like Carolina and others would be looking at him at the top of the 2nd if speed was a real concern.

3)ATL - Two years ago this group was probably number one, but age and injuries appear to be taking a toll on Roddy White. Julio Jones is pushing that elite level, and likely already is. However there really isn't anyone behind them, Hester's never been a viable threat and the verdict is out on the rookie.

4)NO - How much does Marques Colston have left, and can Cooks stay healthy? Similar to TB, and ATL where is the depth...and if teams can limit the deep ball this COULD be a pedestrian year for this group.

Now if we go as far as to factor in quarterbacks, and tight ends...

1)CAR - Adding Olsen to this mix is more than enough with Cam's presence to catapult us to number one.

2)ATL - Matt Ryan is a very good quarterback, but depth at receiver may be an issue, and adding Tamme post Peyton isn't enough to move to #1.

3)NO - It's true Brees is fading and so is the talent at the receiver position, behind Colston and Cooks who's the third guy...NIck Toon? Take away arguably the top receiving tight end in the league and I have to place them behind CAR, and ATL.

4)TB - Rookie quarterback, and Lovie Smith ball just don't say prolific offense. I think TB will look like us last year but with two viable receivers instead of one. Jameis may have been the 1st overall pick, but I just don't know if he's on the same level as the veteran quarterbacks in the NFC South.

1. Falcons

2. Bucs

3. Panthers

4. Saints

Its crazy scrolling through and seeing people give Carolina the nod because of Funchess but then not giving Atlanta credit because Hardy is a rookie (that many here wanted with the Panthers pick). Julio is the best receiver in the division, by a decent margin. Roddy White was injured for most of the year, because the coaching staff wouldn't sit him and let him recover. His last 4 games of 2014 were on par with what he's done throughout his career.

VJ and Mike Evans are probably the best duo in the South. The Saints come in last. A lot of unproven guys will be asked to step up this year. Not sure how that will turn out.

You dont have to be homers to be fans...
