Big Frank, Big Frank, Big Frank!

Recommended Posts

Anybody who thinks they know what we have in Frank Alexander on this day, July 8, 2015, is lying to themselves.  Here is why, and reasons I am optimistic about him:

You are measuring Frank by comparing him to CJ and Hardy in year 4.  Compare him to them in year 3.

There is still a difference, but a player who fails NFL drug tests repeatedly for marijuana has a serious problem.  I read that most NFL players smoke weed, but only one in a thousand gets caught.

I have known people who love weed, and it becomes their identity.  They surround themselves with other potheads, listen to different music, change their language, etc.  Not that he did all of that, but these are signs that it can be a big distraction and impact motivation.  Of course, there will be people who read this who get defensive and claim that I do not know what I am talking about--my perspective is from the outside looking in, I will give them that.  They will not have long to retaliate, however, because those fries don't salt themselves and the drive thru shows no mercy.

Frank joined a church.  Again, this is an opportunity for people who know nothing about the church to bash it.  Unless they are kissing serpents and drinking poisoned Kool-Aid, I don't give a crap and it is his right to find his method of worship.  Call it a cult if you want, but from what I can tell, it is the jolt of positive energy he needed to break away from his drug addiction (I will call it that without proof).

I believe that, for the first time, Frank Alexander will be focused.  He knows that he is on his last leg, and if the reports of his sobriety are true, you have not seen this version of Alexander.  I think we will be fine with him, barring a relapse.  If that happens, he is gone.

I don't know if I would necessarily say overrated, but you got to admit, the kid has garnered his fair share of interest recently. With good reason I would think. If he could somehow win the LE job, man, that would help our D immensely Not to mention his opportunity for him to earn himself, a good sized raise.

I think that if a superstar comes out of our current group of guys (not counting CJ), we need to go back to having a dedicated 3rd down guy. CJ made a name for himself on 3rd downs, and so did Hardy.

Technically, we go with 4 dedicated 3rd down guys. The Panthers call it their "Nascar" Package, cuz everybody rushes 100 mph.

Not sure we are going to get a superstar out of our group. Ealy may come closes, if he can put it all together. And of course there is Big Frank. The Panther DE enigma. The Panthers would love for one of these guys to step up and take that last spot on the Front 4. Which would allow them to better set up their rotation. Setting up a solid rotation is much preferable to the "D-Line by Committee" of last year.

HA! I think tat went over a lot of heads.

I believe he's been talked to about that whole issue, and that he knows this is his absolute last chance here in Carolina.

He'll have to work to get that trust up again. But, I think Rivera is excited due to what he's seen before he screwed up like he did last season.

I'm excited to see the whole Dline rotation work out. I mean hell, rested players make better players. And I think we have some depth there that will help keep them rested and ready.

I concur wholeheartedly that he has his work cut out for him. Best case-he takes over at DE, and never looks back. Worse case-winds up at the bottom of the depth chart, and is never heard from again.

Best case. Rivera would love this. Not only does it settle his line, it gives him all year to play with Ealy. First, the ONLY thing Rivera loves more than having his LB corp. settled, is having his D-line settled. It allows him to set his practice up the way he wants it, not the way he has to. You only have so many reps to go around. It helps when you are filling out the practice schedule, to know who your starters are. The more important benefit of having that starting line set? Getting your rotations set. In both game, and practice settings.

Ealy can wind up being our 6th man this year. Star needs to come out, put Ealy in and see how it works. KK? CJ? Any time you need a blow, Ealy is our man. Sorry. See where he seems to excel, or where he struggles. Use this year to evaluate the heck outta him. There are some tough decisions acomin'. Knowing what you can expect out of Ealy can make at least one of them easier.

I agree completely. It just seems like the guy who "steps up" tends to do so over a year or two of playing 3rd downs for a "Tyler Brayton".

I too think Frank has the inside track for the other end opposite CJ but if I were him I wouldn't slip.   I think Ealy came on great at the end of the season and if he can pick up where he left off CJ my see his playing time go down.

I believe he was the MVP of training camp, yeah yeah yeah so was A. Edwards, last year.  So he has the talent.  As long as he doesn't screw it up.  We'll be solid at DE regardless who starts.

I keep hearing a metric poo-ton regarding how Big Frank is going to be the savior of the line. Can someone PLEASE do a scouting style thread discussing why this man should be more than what I've seen of him?

Please help me see the light; I think I've missed it.

So you are asking others to do the research that you are too lazy to do?  Gotcha.

I think it is Ealy's job to lose.....and play DE on the opposite side of CJ.  They did not use a 2nd round pick on Ealy for him to be a rotational guy. I'm trying to remember the last time Frank played prior to the little bit he played last year.  MVP of training camp does not mean diddly poo.

Me and nearly everyone I know or knew smoked it morning, day, and night. very few touch it anymore if anyone. It's just weed.

possibly but I don't see Rivera setting play time based on draft status. Ealy will start if he deserves to.
