That entire region used to be a lot of sugar cane, tobacco, and citrus plantations. After the civil war many freed slaves took the last name of whoever their owner was. I would wager there was a prominent Benjamin family in South Florida that many freed slaves took the name of.

For last name Benjamin, US census data shows...

1-20 of 3,927 results for >Name: Benjamin

 

United States Census, 1860

1-20 of 4,629 results for >Name: Benjamin

 

United States Census, 1870

1-20 of 7,452 results for >Name: Benjamin

 

So from 1850 to 1860 the last name Benjamin grew in number by 702. 

But from 1860 to 1870 (post civil war) the last name Benjamin grew in number by 2823 or roughly 4 times the increase as the decade prior. 

 

Extremely ugly bit of our country's history, but explains how some names are common in certain towns.

BMW is still the best car I've ever owned. Just got too expensive for me to maintain. It actually made driving fun again.

I would never drive a car that doesn't come with functional turn signals. I am assuming they are just there for show or something; I've never seen a BMW driver use them.
