Florida State dumps QB

Exactly what kind of actions would you suggest make a small woman deserving of a punch in the face by a man who's big and strong enough to play college football?

I could probably go downtown right now and inspire somebody to take a baseball bat to my kneecaps. Would I deserve to have my kneecaps busted? No, nobody deserves that. But is it part my fault that I antagonized a stranger with my foolishness? You betcha.

I blame her parents. If I ever have a daughter, I going to teach her that she should never raise her hands to hit anybody, ever, because you never know how he is going to react. He might be a gentleman and walk away, but he might be like that neanderthal idiot in Florida and hit you back. Her parents should have taught her better.

I finally got to see the video in its entirety on a monitor rather than just the clip of the punch on a cell phone screen. The video clip of just the punch shows why the full story is absolutely necessary. I still say that the kid was in the wrong for having blasted her as hard as he did. I cannot say however that I would have been upset if he had slapped the s*** out of her instead. She was the one that initiated the entire conflict. He was trying to get past her and wasn't being rude about it. She somehow caught feelings from it and said something to him to which he responded. She raised her fist in a threatening manner and we know the rest of the story.

He should've been suspended for a couple of games, not kicked off the team. She should have charges brought against her, especially if she used a hate slur.

Your last sentence is straight up ignorant. Charges for what? Let me be clear, I do not condene racist statements, but its not a crime to call someone a bad name.  Have you ever heard of the constitution?  Also, I've seen people suggest the woman should be charged for hitting him (in between getting grabbed by the arm and getting slugged in the face by a man). I don't see how thats possible considering he grabbed her arm first. From what I understand, that alone is assault. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I love that you blame her parents, and don't mention his.

Maybe if someone had taught him that a man doesn't hit women...

You are absolutely right. He shouldn't have hit her, and needed better home training too.

But, knowing that guys like that are out there, should she have raised her fist like that and taken a swing at him? Some of you think she can do or say what she wants with no repercussions, and I think that's just not smart.

Quick suggestion: If you've had any thoughts about working as aany kind of a counselor or an advocate for victims, ignore them.

Please tell us what you think you would have to do to someone to make them take a baseball to your kneecaps.

Well let's see...I could intentionally step on somebody's brand new white air jordans with my muddy boots...I could challenge Tonya Harding for the last spot on the figure skating team...I could call a woman fat and ugly in front of her drunk boyfriend...I could go to a Klan rally and yell "black power!"...I could go to the middle of the 'hood and yell "white power!"...I could draw a picture of the Prophet Mohammed while on vacation in Syria...I could ask a chubby girl if she's pregnant or just a little porky...

Another one added to the list.

My point is this: there are things we can do to inspire angry or even violent reactions in people, and although that doesn't excuse or justify their reactions, we have to take personal responsibility for what we did to provoke them. There are crazy people out there, and we simply don't know how volatile each person is that we come across. Can't we all just get along?

Mitigation of the facts is a classic defense lawyer technique.

But you're not defending the athlete in prime condition who cold-cocked a much smaller, chubby girl.  Noooooooooooooo, you'd never do that.

Common post in this thread:

"I'm not defending him" followed by two or three paragraphs of shifting the blame to the girl he punched.

Nope. Not doing that at all. Just wondering why some folks refuse to acknowledge that she had something to do with the way things turned out. Oh I forgot, she has ovaries.
