Why not be optimistic? His only 3rd round pick was Trai Turner, who most people seem to agree is a long term solution at guard. I'm not saying he will always find a 5-10 year starter in the 3rd but I would rather have that pick instead of reaching for a head case who may not even be worth a high pick.

Any day three pick would be worth the gamble.  I might even look at a 3rd, but that's only if I could get some good reassurances about his character.  I'm sure that someone's doing some pretty intense investigation over there right now.

This locker room is strong enough to mold a young man the right way.  If we get him that's all the proof I need.

One thing to consider that I haven't seen mentioned--this kid is at least a year away from being able to play well at the NFL level.  People have mentioned his weight, and he needs that time to bulk up.

That fact alone doesn't bother me a bit.  A de facto redshirt year or two while Oher mans the fort could be ideal.  

As I constantly said during draft season, 19 of the 32, including both Super Bowl teams, have a first rounder at LT.  To be able to get a good one (is he?  will he be?  I don't know), for later round value would be HUGE!

not buying the locker room thing. couldn't keep Hardy from being an idiot. The "Patriot Way" didn't work with Haynesworth either. Some guys are gonna make dumb choices regardless of veterans and high-character guys in the locker room. Agree that the FO won't take a chance on him either.

That's cool, what I was trying to say is that if the FO goes after him and gets him, then the decision, coupled with our strong locker room, would ease any concerns I previously held about Battle.

i agree with that. certainly would think that there is less risk for him in a locker room like ours opposed to somewhere like Oakland, Detroit, or Dallas.

depends on if the guy wants to change....norwell used to eat other players for fun, now sticks to a clean d line only diet with the linebacker for dessert.
