starting a bar

Could be, I'm no expert on bar management. I personally would like to do something like this, but my wife would freak out at the idea of getting food from a truck no matter how good it seemed, so we'd end up having to go to the #$$% Applebees across the street.

Man, really?  From my experience in the food industry (I have been out now for years), the food trucks are always cleaner than the middle tier restaurants.

I love the fact that they only have small menus, so you know that what you are eating is fresh.  You have to wonder how long those ribs have been sitting in the fridge at Chili's?

where is it and what kind of crowd does it cater to?

University area but it caters to all types. We have a wine club and a group of well off regulars that come and buy wine and place orders all the time. We have over 300 craft beers as well. The great thing about the no food thing is that it cuts costs and makes inspection easier. We also allow people to bring food from surrounding restaurants.

Perhaps you could something on the opposite end of the spectrum. More beer focused with wine on the side. (Speaking of which you could hire me haha).

I won't specifically say where I work but if you guys are at all familiar with Charlotte you know where I'm talking about.

i've been heavily considering this. not dealing with liquor means i wouldn't have to bother with stupid ALE laws about food sale percentages, which means i wouldn't have to bother with food, which means i wouldn't have to bother with kitchen equipment and stock, which means i wouldn't have to deal with finding premises equipped for kitchen systems, which means i wouldn't have to bother with paying a cook... etc.

i wouldn't mind riding the beer bubble for the next five years.

YUP to all of this.

Have really good beers on tap and bottle/can, as well as sell beer by the 6 and 12.

Have some good wine selection, and keep a couple rotating by the glass.

If you have the facility, you can carry/order nice kegs to sell.

Have breweries come and do events on the weekends.

Have rotating live music outside.

Food trucks on the weekends when you have live music.

Profit.

i have considered a ton of models, that being one of them (and the most probable.) i'm inspired by a lot of seemingly clap-trap but very purposeful, upscale bohemian places in southeast asia and south america covered with kickass wall art and atmosphere out the asshole without being pretentious or looking like a stoner shop had a fire sale.

i'm also considering the fact that greensboro is booming, has tons of panthers fans, but absolutely no general meeting spot for panthers fans. i think there's enormous potential to mobilize panthers fans in the area and create an unofficial gameday spot with an outsourcing system for food (either a truck or a profit-sharing system with a local pizza joint or something.)
