Seahawks offer Wilson a deal in the range of Cam Newton's

30M? No. Buy I believe he will get 25M or damn close.

$25M and $30M aren't even close. I agree, I think whichever one of them--Luck or Wilson--gets their contract after the other does will get close to $25M. Neither will surpass $27M, and I highly doubt either surpasses $25M by much.

Does anyone think Wilson sustains the same level of efficiency without the #1 defense and #1 RB? I honestly don't think his style of quarterbacking is sustainable for winning consistently long term, unless you have a top 3 defense and top 3 running game.

Defense and a running game are a QB's best friend. Seahawks fans like to point out that Wilson's O-line and WRs have been sub-par. But, their run blocking has been excellent while Lynch is a beast at not going down on first contact. Their WRs also do an excellent job of scrambling with Wilson and coming down with 50/50 balls. I'd argue that the Seahawks lack of pass protection doesn't really matter because Wilson escapes the pocket very often at the first sign of initial pressure. His pocket skills are very sub-par and further hindered by his 5'11 height.

On the other hand, Cam has averaged 8 wins per year despite:

  • Being extremely raw  with 1 year of CFB experience vs Wilson who had 4 years college experience.
  • Dealing with a vanilla offensive scheme vs the Seahawks tailoring their offense around Wilson's skill-set
  • Sub-par coaching. RR is top 16 with potential of being top 10 vs Pete Carroll who has been the #2 coach behind BB.
  • Being on a team in salary cap hell and with terrible drafts 2009/2010/2011 vs Wilson who came on to the most talented roster in the NFL. Oh yeah, don't forget John Schneider is considered a top 3 GM.
  • Having sub-par run support after 2011. Deangelo- meh, Stewart- hurt a lot. vs Lynch who is the #1 RB the past 3 years.
  • Having sub-par defense besides 2013. I only care about ppg when it comes to defense. Panthers' defense has been ranked #28 in 2011, #18 in 2012, #2 in 2013, and #21 in 2014.

No wonder Gettleman is so confident in Cam.

We saw what Cam is capable of doing vs the Bengals. Put up 37 points despite being held back by sub-par run defense, sub-par pass rush, awful secondary, and awful run support (Reaves/Ogbannya/Whittaker lol). Is Wilson capable of that? Nope.

If Cam plays anything like Wilson did vs the Packers in the NFC Champ. game (48% completion rate, 4 INTs, 44 passer rating), we get blown out by 40 points. That's how well rounded and talented the Seahawks are.

According to Wilson he's just doing what God believes he should do.

Ha.  Good point.  Let's see how many churches he builds with the money.  Wilson is probably just setting the bar.  If he suggests $25m and the Hawks suggest $18m, he is going to get his $20m.

I don't see Wilson as a Super Bowl winning QB; he was a game manager in their victory.  I see Wilson as a Super Bowl LOSING QB.  I think his ego was such that he wanted to be the hero.  As much as everyone denies it, I think Wilson had something to do with that stupid play call on the goal line (wanted to be the hero, or they wanted him to be the hero).  Regardless, Wilson should have seen the coverage, the DB, and he should have thrown that pass away (low).  Easy for me to say, but he knew the next play would have been a run and Skilttles gets all the glory.  So he forced it into a window that was not open.

Nobody will ever know the truth for sure, the reasons the play happened, but it seems ironic that the player who had stunk up the playoffs would want and get the play that would have redeemed himself and given himself the MVP trophy and made himself the hero of the game.  That is what Russell does--he allows the defense and Lynch to get them to the brink of a win and he steps in and nabs the glory.  He finds the camera after the game, and makes his 169 yards of passing seem as if he threw for 250.  Rarely is he the reason they win; he is simply the reason they didn't lose--until the Super Bowl vs. New England.

Wilson has a lot of great characteristics, but being a great qb is not one of them.  Seattle is going to give him the money, and he might be worth elite qb money in Seattle, but I am not paying a game manager more than Rodgers.

Basically, there was a reason Wilson was a third round draft pick.

Well yes, and those reasons exist today, but there is really no relation between second contract and draft status--I just think he fell into a team that had just signed Matt Flynn to be the qb, so he wins the job,  Confidence is important, and the press build Wilson up like few other players because the Seahawks win games--defense, running game.  Success came easy for him because it was easy. He once said, "I can throw for 300 yards per game because I did it in college. Here, I do what they ask me to do" (paraphrased) .  Right.
