Seahawks offer Wilson a deal in the range of Cam Newton's

Do you pay franchise QB money for that?

I wouldn't.

That's why Seattle's in a bind. They created this monster (albeit won a Superbowl doing so). Now they got to "Feed The Puppy", and the beast they created.

Ironically, though the media likes to focus on Wilson (the beneficiary). Most close observers know, it's actually Lynch, and/or the defense that's the primary focus of most team, and opposing defenses. Wilson works off of that. And it makes a big difference, whether you pay a QB like him that type of money, unless you're just awarding him for previous success.

Let's just hope, that the Panthers and Newton (relative to Russell, not that others don't have something to do with it), will start winning Superbowl's of their own, starting this year, showing how bad a contract that would be if they would pay Wilson Stratospheric money. I just don't see it myself.

Hope that answers your question?

I still wonder about the play call at the end of the last Super Bowl. I'm not claiming a conspiracy or something silly. But I really think that the Seahawks wanted Wilson to become the anchor for their team instead of Marshawn, and when it counted most, he came up short.

Up until that loss, the Seahawks were fairly wishy washy/non committal to Lynch regarding a new contract. After the loss, they wasted little time to get him locked in.

As much as I hate conspiracy theories, you're not the only one asking that question.

I'd like to believe a coach like Carroll isn't stupid enough to make a game changing decision based on criteria like that.

But what can't be denied is, whatever the reason behind it, he was indeed stupid enough to make the call.

What I would give to sign Luke to his extension this week, put them in even more of a pickle, and make them all go even more ape chit.

What you fail to realize is its not about what they're worth, it's about what they can get. I believe Seattle will pay an extra 2-5 mil per year to keep the continuity and certainty.

What you fail to realize is that neither of them can get near $30M/year. Contracts don't just jump 36% from the current highest. It's unrealistic thinking for anyone to think that Luck or Wilson will get $30M/year. No team would pay either of them that much. Not even a desperate team---and neither will hit FA so there will be no bidding wars.

If you believe Orr's source, Wilson himself might be one of those 'unrealistic thinkers'.

I don't think he or his agent thinks he can get $30M/year. I think he thinks he can get $24-25M/year, which would make him the highest paid. But no agent is that stupid to think that his client could get a contract 36% higher than the current highest. No matter how good the player is. They don't just jump like that.

Gotta remember though, he's a baseball agent, not a football agent.

Hard to know what he thinks he can get.

Our own Charles Johnson is a perfect example of actual value vs. oh crap we can't really afford to lose this guy value.

Russell Wilson is their Charles Johnson. A good player that will need to be paid like an elite player due to timing and circumstance.

No tears shed here though. Nice to see it happen to someone else for a change.

I have a hard time seeing that happening to us again.

If we didn't overpay the franchise quarterback, what is there to suggest we'd overpay anyone else?

30M? No. Buy I believe he will get 25M or damn close.
