Are We Done Dealing?

As I mentioned yesterday, which is why I'm still kind of miffed by last night's draft, when I tweeted Steve Reed after completion of the Lamb deal and asked if he thought we were done dealing, he simply replied, "Nope."  That was it.  No extra details or specifics, so that seemed pretty definitive.

Lending further credibility to that idea is the fact that after all of the deals we completed prior to the draft, it left us with $0 in cap space.  So, if the roster remains as-is, only thing we can do in FA is offer the MLE (can't remember, but believe that is around $5-6M per).  But, I doubt MJ wants to do much more adding salary as, if I'm not mistaken, will put us into the luxury tax, which he has been on record saying he wanted to avoid.  And yet, we still have a roster spot open.

Now, Clifford just said this regarding Frank:

Interesting...  I know he added the caveat "in certain rotations," but that's two core pieces there in MKG and Batum, and he wants Frank at the 5.  Possibly the first time I've ever heard Clifford say anyone would be taking time over a healthy Al.  Even more interesting is that he is already saying he WILL be contributing, versus his cautiousness with Cody, Noah, and PJ over the last several seasons.  I keep saying the Frank pick makes no sense with the amount of bigs we currently have, and Al is the most obvious "sore thumb" because he is a completely one-dimensional player.

Do you think we're done trading?

Anyone else catch Cho mentioning that we now have 5 bigs in last night's draft presser? He mentioned everyone but Biz.

Hopefully it was just an oversight but it could be telling.

I think it would be a mistake to let such a talented rim protector go, especially now that we have excellent shooting stretch bigs to compliment him.

I hope we move Al if anyone.

I can see us trying to deal Roberts, Daniels, Hairston, Taylor, Zeller, and Hawes. I'd be fine with trading Jefferson, but no one wants a broken down defensive liability. The problem is we don't have the assets to get anyone good in return for Zeller. Any chance Boston would deal us Hunter? They need bigs and we need shooters. Could be a good match.

I thought we only had four bigs WITHOUT Biz.  So, if he said we have 5, then I'm pretty sure he's including Biz (Al, Cody, Hawes, Frank, Biz).

They have to be trying to move Al/Cody.  They like Hawes, Biz and obviously Frank.  I hope they pull a rabbit out of their ass cause the fans are a little miffed right now.  Jordan better hide out West on a golf course for a while.  Some one in town will let him know about it if they see him out.

The 5th big he mentioned was Marvin Williams.

Marvin, Al, Cody, Hawes, Frank.

I certainly would not understand a "defensive" coach letting Biz go without a fight though...

Wow.  Wow for him considering Marvin a big, and for not including Biz in that group.

I have mentioned it elsewhere, just as Batman did here, but being that the right thing to do would be to keep Biz, as he's young and to me, infinitely more valuable than Al is to us.  But, because that is the right thing, and smart thing to do, we will let him walk for nothing.

In the interview, he said those were the bigs "that we have currently" or something like that. Is Biz technically out of contract now? Is he currently not a team member until they accept a team option? That could have been all he meant.

However, I can def see us not retaining Biz...and then he going to a team and becoming a strong rotation big for pretty much any team in the league. I feel like it is so obvious we need his post defense...that we are bound to let him go.

Couldn't we amnesty Hawes? Seems kind of pointless to have both him and Kaminsky. Resign Biyombo and attempt to trade Jefferson. Kaminsky and Biyombo would both play well along side each other. Jefferson would just try to shoot over triple coverage instead of passing out to Kaminsky.

Yeah, no way MJ pays Hawes 18 mil out of his own pocket for nothing...  Plus, I think they view Hawes and Frank as Super-McBob's (range, stretch bigs, deft passers, etc.), so they value both of them equally.

And I will be seriously pissed, if we don't retain Biz...  I guess I better prepare myself then, but, I've been saying since last season when Al first went down with injury that Biz should've been the starter and getting the bulk of the minutes.  No, he isn't gonna do much offensively, but what he does defensively more than makes up for it.  He gives us more opportunities on offense by impacting our opponent's.  Al runs down clock and jacks up shots, then lets his man get easy baskets on the other end, rinse, repeat.

Lineups with combos of Hawes/Zeller or Biz/Frank are infinitely better than any one of those guys paired with Al.

Myself im fine with those front court pairings but we need to find a home for Al and depending where some of these free agents are going there could be some sign and trades needed to be made and AL would be a good piece to add in 3 way deals to match up money wise if some of these guys need to be sign and traded .
