yeah official diagnosis is "A/C compressor failure, contaminated system, expansion valve and receiver drier"

Where do you live? DIY and you can replace your AC Compressor and entire brake system (front & rear pads, calipers, rotors, hoses) for less than $1,000. And that includes paying $150 or so to have your AC system professionally evacuated and filled.

The thing is if the compressor has grenaded into the system and you have metal throughout the system it will need every component in the system replaced or the contaminant in the condensor, evaporator, A/C lines ietc will fubar the new parts.

Was the official diagnosis a failed compressor or was that just the dealership's diagnosis? Most of the time the stealerships will over diagnose if they think you are naive enough to believe them. One time my Accord stopped blowing cold air. Ended up being a just a $5 switch on the dashboard that needed replacement. I would check that out before opening up your wallet.

Exactly.  Find a mechanic that will install the parts for you.  My experience on Ebay has been awesome. One time they sent the wrong front shocks for my Expedition, they let me keep them free of charge, turned out to be the rear shocks.  Full KYB shock set for $70 lol. Beat that dealership
