News from what I'd consider a reliable source: Marvel.com

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017.  The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

His IMDb page: Tom Holland

He's 19 years old, and British.

Technically he's only the third, and Andrew Garfield was awful.

I saw something a short time ago claiming the kid from "Ender's Game" had the role, but it didn't seem legit.

Garfield was the only part of those movies that was worth watching... he was a great spider-man

Do we really need another Spiderman?

yes... now that sony and marvel have worked out their deal and spidey will be a part of the MCU, this reboot actually makes sense

Can't agree.  Garfield was just as bad as those movies were.

I pretend Spider-man 1 & 2 exist.  Then there's like three other movies about a spider-like vigilante.

Just to clarify, which "1 and 2" do you mean?

I'm gonna assume you mean the rebooted 1 and 2 because Sam Raimi's Spider Man 2 was one of the best superhero movies made (especially Al Molina's take on Doctor Octopus).

there were rumors going around a few months ago (around the time of the Sony hacks, I believe) that JK Simmons was being mentioned again for the JJJ role... he was absolutely too perfect for the role

I also read a while back that Sony was hoping to make this some kind of Sony multi-verse... since they still own Spider-Man and all the related rights and will still be making their own standalone films (just with Marvel input), they're going to look at the original trilogy as one universe, Garfield films as another and this new batch of films that are tied into the MCU into another

essentially, this would allow them to make films across several different universes/timelines and build off of the good from some and forget the bad from others.  who knows if that will really happen... it could have just been ideas being tossed around at Sony, but it's an interesting idea (and would allow them to also introduce Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara, etc)

When I say 1 & 2, I'm talking about Raimi.  I pretend they're the only ones that were made haha.  The non-Spiderman 3 I'm referring to are S3 and TAS1&2.  Raimi's 2nd flick is the best of the bunch.

    • all of a sudden we have a crowded WR room but I'm pulling for him.  Good kid, went to Socastee High, near Myrtle Beach, then to Clemson and I think really surprised everyone that he got drafted and did well. Fun player to watch too.  Hope he makes it.  I expect Thielen to retire after this season, Hunter could be a good replacement.
    • Everyone wants to know what happened to Hunter Renfrow. He went from the Pro Bowl in 2021 to an afterthought in 2022 and 2023 to out of the league in 2024.  Renfrow ow is attempting a comeback with the Panthers. “It’s just trying to get back, trying to get healthy, trying to do something I love,” Renfrow told Darin Gantt of the team website when asked about a year out of the game. “I enjoyed other parts of life. We had our second daughter, so enjoying that and just wanting to make sure if I’m going to come back and give my time and attention to something that I was going to be all in on it.” Renfrow, 29, revealed that he has dealt with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, which left him with weight loss, fatigue and high fever. It’s a reason he did not play last season. Instead, Renfrow spent a year consulting with doctors and getting the condition under control. “It kicked my butt pretty good,” Renfrow said. “Last year, I fluctuated in weight. I went down to 150 pounds. I had like seven straight days of 103-degree fevers. It’s tough to play when you’re not feeling great.” He now weighs 187 with a goal of a playing weight of 185. “It’s a weird feeling. It makes you grateful for the times that you do feel good,” Renfrow said. “It makes you grateful for the opportunities that you’ve had, and when you feel like you’ve been blessed with some skill to go out there and perform, it makes you not want to waste the opportunity that you have. And that was one of the reasons why I wanted to come back and play.” In five seasons, Renfrow has 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/hunter-renfrow-a-health-challenge-led-to-time-away-from-football
