Tiger7_88 your numbers are all out of whack. Close to 620,000 casualties were accumulated during the civil war. that is including deaths, wounded, died of disease. How about you stick to Panther talk and let people who have studied history stick to the facts. Run along

you must of pulled toes numbers out your ass.

You are correct, I read the chart I was referring to incorrectly.

Nice job pointing out an error in statistics to cover up the fact that I invalidated the embarrassing point you tried to make in your original post.  I don't have to study history to know that your statement concerning the American flag was ridiculous and you should be ashamed of yourself for making it.

How's it ridiculous? History is history right? Facts are facts. Slavery was running on all cylinders in the United States well before states rights into slavery existed.

Here is a fact also. A lot of Union troops didn't give two craps about slavery. Racism was just as bad in the UNion Army as was in the CSA army. Why do you think it took until almost into 1863 for the Union to finally give blacks a regiment? Hell the U.S. Govt were paying black soldiers less money than white soldiers during the war. How is that not racism. It's  a two way street.

A good majority were fighting to protect the Union and didn't care about African Americans.

Why is that relevant? Every country has had slavery at some point in their history...with the exception of any new country but there aren't many of those. And yes America was late to the party in getting rid of it but they did. And it took a war to do it. I'm not saying that's all the war was about but it's the relevant point in this case. Then the symbol of that war was the flag (regardless of what that flag was actually used for) pictured above. It became a symbol of southern resistance in the ways that Texans think of themselves as independent. But, as Tiger pointed out, it was co-opted. And when the "silent majority" did nothing it became corrupted. It is now time to at least remove the symbol from the State Government buildings. Why is that such an affront?

All that.......is 100% true..

Even the Emancipation proclamation,  that paved the way to freeing slaves everywhere,  was only put into effect as a way to hurt the rebels because they didn't surrender prior to the deadline given...and it only attempted to free slaves in the CSA.... not all the slaves in the North.  Basically the North was desperate and wanted more "volunteers" for their army..and wanted to take away the slave support from the CSA..  basically both sides were using the hell out of the slaves.   Lincoln was racist as hell.

I've no problem if people want to cast shame on the confederate flags,  as long as they can at least widen their eyes enough to realize and see that nearly everything they hate about the confederate flag,  they should also be hating about our Stars and Stripes flag also.

i guess we couldn't statistically expect to have this conversation without some idiot running in and defending the flag of american apartheid

yes Philly I'm an idiot for putting facts into a discussion. How about you stick to your Panther write ups, because you obviously don't know poo about history.

north also wanted to put the emancipation into effect, because the south was trying to gain international support for their war (Antietam was suppose to be that battle) with England and the North knew England would not support a war with slavery as the agenda.

"states rights" is a euphemism. the CSA was trying to drum up support from foreign nations and realized that everyone was gagging over their disgusting slavery agenda, so they repackaged it as "states rights" to make it more palatable to any european powers willing to fight a proxy war against america.

this is wrong and revisionist history. You are much better than this. Yes we can all agree the flag needs to be gone and should have been before. It is abhorrent what it represents and the time in history it comes from.  But let us do it without the hyperbole of false narratives that are being pumped out by a revisionist history movement of the last 40 years.

It's one sided tolerance.  Believe what we believe,  think how we think,  because if you don't......then we will bully you, label you and call you every disgusting name in the book.

As somebody that wants the flag to be taken down (among other things) I hate when sport franchises take "positions" on these issues. They could ban the flag from the games or whatever but they're in no position to influence policy. The Phoenix Suns did the same thing a few years ago when the immigration debate took over Arizona, even going as far as wearing "Los Suns" jerseys. Sports are supposed to be OUR escape from the shitty world we live in, not a constant reminder. This will only further divide people, and this thread is going to the tinderbox.
