True Detective Season Two

As someone that watched the brilliant first season at least three times, I tempered my expectations for this because there's literally no way it could match the magic of season one.

I like how it's still uber dark, almost to the point of cheesiness at times. I'm not a huge fan of the opening song/sequence, but maybe it'll grow on me. Like one critic said, it's almost like a parody song someone would make for True Detective. And there were some moments that I wonder what the hell writer Nick P was thinking. For example when Vince Vaughn's character said deadpan, "Never do anything out of hunger. Not even eating."  I don't know if that is supposed to be so bad it's funny, or if it's just unintentionally funny.

But overall I think it set a firm foundation for all the main characters amazingly for only one episode, and when all of the cops were there at the final scene it really felt like a True Detective episode. I can't wait to see what kind of fugged up stuff is in store this season.

Watched it last night with tempered expectations but thought it kicked off better than season 1.

Overall better than I expected for sure, but there seems to be a lot of very lukewarm reviews on it so maybe I liked it more than most.

I watched Pitch Perfect 2 after that if anyone feels like discussing it.

It's definitely faster paced as they gave us multiple characters and multiple plots. Almost too much. But yes, it has a lot to live up to. But as others have said, season 1 wasn't great until you really got into it. I actually didn't like the Kitsch character. I hope he grows on me. And I hope McAdams doesn't play thet stereotypical sexy tomboy too much.

Faster paced doesn't mean just having more characters. Season 1 episode was much faster paced. In the first 15 minutes you have the body and the guys already investigating. We didn't have the body until the final moments. It was a slow burn. That much is certain.

Agree to disagree.

We saw the body in s01e01 then got many episodes of nothing at all until the big end hunt. Yes it went deep into their two lives. Now we've already started to dig deep into four character's lives, have a body, and have a chance for much more story. They cut from character to character this season. Last one saw the two guys mostly sitting in chairs.

Uh...

season one was one of my all time favorite seasons of television

I'm so excited for this season.

I feel like True Detective is a show that you almost have to watch at least twice to catch everything, and even then there is probably a ton of literary references that I miss regularly
