Stopped watching half way through to go watch Naked and Afraid XL.

I wanted it to get good, I really did.  Stayed with it through all but the last 30 mins before I decided I really just didn't give a fug.

To those of you who liked it, Im glad it entertained you.

Can't blame you...   As someone who has defended this season up until this point, this was the first episode that I wanted to stop watching before the end.  I already knew where it was going, and as I described in my post-episode thoughts above, it was horribly executed -  from the writing to the acting.  Just felt way too clichéd and predictable.

very well put

I actually really enjoyed 90% of the first 7 episodes, and I expected the finale to be what put the season over the hump, but instead it was probably the worst episode out of them all. Nick P set out to prove the first season was all him and not Cary F, Matthew Mc and Woody. Well Nick failed miserably. This finale just pissed me off. The worst part is, I think the actors were incredible. They couldn't have done a better job IMO. Kudos to all of them. Too bad the writing was a poo show.

Bottom line.

Last season you had pure evil in a sick fug praying on vulberable individuals seemingly at will.

This season you had typical government corruption and organized crime feasting on the taxpayers dime.

This may as well have been a documentary on California politics and the interstate rail system being built.

No comparison.

Surprised they didn't mention Diane Feinstein and Gerry Brown by name.

It's LA-noire, it's supposed to end like that.  The part of the season that I just don't understand though is why it took them 6.5 episodes to establish that as its identity.

My view is that it was stuck between trying to do too many things style/theme wise while not doing enough with the story.  I mean it tried to do sooo much yet they simply maintained the same brooding tone throughout.

Though....(I'll probably get grilled for this)--I personally think S1 isn't anything special as a whole but of course the acting and dialogue was top notch.  The ending for S1 made the season seem less substantial in my view; just nothing seemed to really amount to anything.

This season seemed to have a better overarching idea but it was executed quite poorly.  I think it should've magnified the surrealist aspects (Birdman, the dream sequences, etc.) rather than ping-ponging between a cop/crime drama, throwback noire style, and Lynch-esque modes (which they tried wayy too hard at).

I thought Frank was the high point and well executed but the special investigation side of things was a misfire for me.  In retrospect, it's basically saying 2 kids who wanted revenge for 92' inadvertently opened the window for the corruption findings and thus, the entire plot.  In addition, the whole situation for Paul could've been avoided if he wasn't so dang emo driving his motorcycle like a mad man.  He wouldn't have been the one to find Caspere in the first place.

I completely get why some people didn't like it, but I thought it was awesome. I loved the characters and the slow build. I thought Ray was Collin Farrell's best role I've ever seen him (in Bruges comes to mind too) and thought Vince Vaughn really came on strong late. Rachel McAdams was a grand slam, I loved her.

Some people wanted it to be season 1, some people hated season 1, some people just hate True Detective. That's ok, because it's not a show made to please everyone.
