Carolina Panthers 2015 Roster Projection

Important thing to remember when making this list:

Obviously you're going to need a certain quota of players at each spot, but per his own words Gettleman doesn't subscribe to a formula of preset numbers at any position.

As with the draft where his philosophy is 'best player available' Gettleman's roster building is based on the 'best 53'.

Try this yourself and see how hard it is.  I love the players that Jeremy has on the PS--I would bet 2-3 of them make the roster at some point.  I disagree with about 3-4 players, but this is a place to start.

He makes a good point about Webb, and I am sure he struggled over that one.  Webb is a great attitude and leader.  Tough to cut.

I still think we go with a pure FB.  Not sure that Tolbert can do that.

Cotchery and Chandler need to be cut imo. Chandler is the worst starting RT we've ever had in the history of the franchise. Cotchery quit on several routes, sometimes at critical moments, and was covered like a blanket by DEs. Yes defensive ends shut him down, and he quit on the routes and slowly just trailed off. Unacceptable. Steve Smith would have punched him for that. I don't want to hear that Cotchery is some crafty vet, not when quitting on routes and looking around like an idiot who had no idea what just happened. Being around forever doesn't mean he's some wise sage. I don't want Cotchery (who can forget that drop against Seattle that hit him dead square in the hands) causing more coverage sacks on Cam because he's almost never open. And that pillar of ash Chandler has to be cut. I don't care he knows how to play OC, OT, OG, DT, he is TERRIBLE. Cam is in serious danger any time Chandler is on the field.

Hate the RB core as long as Stewart is propped up as a 16 game starter. Artis-Payne must ride to the rescue.

Oline is still a huge question mark.

DB core could use some help.

As long as Stewart can play he needs to start. He's way too talented not to. We need to play him while we've got him. I honestly think Fozzy is a pretty good RB too and Todman may have his uses here and there. Artis-Payne has an all around solid skill set. plus Tolbert. RB should  be good to go.

    • My understanding is that Canales was asked about Tommy Tremble. Canales stated he had had back surgery, it was successful, and that they expected Tremble back for Training Camp. The Panthers PR person later clarified that Tremble will start TC on the PUP list. However, PUP during preseason isn't like PUP during the regular season where you definitely will miss time. Tremble can come off the PUP at any point, and to me Canales' statement made it seem like they were expecting him fully back near the start of TC. So, reading the team leaves, it seems like Tremble will be at TC but not practicing at least initially. Canales seemed to indicate he expected Tremble to be a part of TC, so that would indicate they anticipate him being activated around the start of TC. In terms of concern, who can honestly say? Its certainly not ideal that the surgery took place now. However, it does seems like this is an issue the team was fully aware of, and the plan was to rehab without surgery. The concern is obviously Tremble wasn't fully recovering without surgery, now the surgery will at least impact TC, and surgeries are never guaranteed. And back injuries can linger and rarely completely resolve. Still, there are a whole gamut of procedures that constitute back surgery, and while surgery is only "minor" when it's not your own, this doesn't seem to be a major procedure. Tremble is in the building this week, so it's obvious hes not incapacitated or anything. Will just have to wait and monitor.  Im excited to see how JT Sanders and Mitchell Evans look in 2 TE sets since they fit more differentiated roles (Sanders is primarily a receiving threat, and Mitchell is more of a traditional TE). I hope Tremble is fully healthy for Week 1. This isn't the flashiest TE group in the league, but I think given the emergence of Sanders, as long as Tremble and Evans can be good role players we should be fine.
    • Meh camp is where Bryce looks the best. The answers will start to trickle in during the joint practices and that game but game 1 has been the real starting line for the reality of the season the last 2 years.
