Keep this in mind:  Coming in 8 pounds overweight doesn't mean coming in 8 lbs over ideal playing weight.  There is a range they want to see him in.  8 lbs overweight could very well mean 28 pounds over the weight he played at last year.

They tell you where they want you when you report after the offseason...he was over that number.

I remember listening to Steve Smith talk about hamstring injuries happen to guys that show up to camp unprepared. It's a red flag that a guy didn't stay in shape during his time off. 

 

Steve is a pros pro, I'll take his word on this.
