OFFICIAL: LANCE STEPHENSON TRADED TO CLIPPERS FOR MATT BARNES AND SPENCER HAWES

Updated...   Official per NBA Gametime app.

Imo, hard to call a winner on this trade...  Only player really worth a poo in their team's rotation out of the three involved was Barnes.

It is addition by subtraction for us, regardless of who we got back...  I just hate it because it was rumored that we were in talks with them for Lance back in January or February...  I feel we could've gotten more back if we were able to pull it off then.

Also, how weird is it that we have had two different trades DURING the NBA Finals?  I don't ever recall one happening during this period before.

Not a fan of this. I was hoping to see the way Lance responded this year. I think he would have responded well. If we were going to trade I was hoping for a late 1st but to flip him for essentially cap room (Cut Barnes) and Hawes??? Im not seeing it.

That's part of the fun of this trade. Something had to be truly awful for Lance to be shipped out like this, and I can't wait for the back and forth shade between the organization and Lance leading up to Woj's tell-all expose'. It will be glorious.

Also, this could mean another trade is on the horizon. We haven't kept up with the Hornets off-season around here, but they have re-shuffled their pro and college scouting department. Perhaps this is the first step of a complete re-construction of the roster, something that is sorely needed.

This is an indictment of not one but TWO Cho mistakes in the same trade (Lance, getting Biz's replacement.) If this doesn't work out we are definitely looking at new management next season.

I do have to say though, I REALLY hate adding Hawes' contract, but like I said, something had to be done.

Also, I greatly look forward to Lance trying that bullshit with Chris Paul that he did here....  Throw a turnover and then try to blame someone else and talk poo to them afterwards.  Lol,  Paul would straight punch him in the balls.

Oh, and since the trade, the Hornets have tweeted Matt Barnes out saying "welcome, to the newest hornet." so, I don't think they plan on waiving him.  Also, Chad ford tweeted out to someone who said we liked rj hunter but don't want to take him at 9, so we likely will trade to pick up an asset and take him further down.  He said the Celtics are the most logical partner.

Here here.

I actually like the fit Hawes gives us but the contract is indeed a drag.  Regardless of who our HC is, I just didn't see what we have clicking with Lance so I agree it's addition by subtraction to a degree.  The fit no matter how much he bloomed just wasn't there IMO and if this is all that was left, it will be interesting moving forward.  Barnes is the older vet behind MKG that could give us a decent rotation.  Kinda puts Taylor off the team but it's so early this offseason (well technically the post-season for a few more nights), this all may just be us setting up for something else.

I really like the way you look at things so very positive. I am usually positive with the FO but I actually like Biz and even though Lance sucked last year I was hoping for somewhat a positive asset.

So assuming Hendo is gone (opts out of his player option), the uncertainty about bringing Mo back, and this trade now showing the writing on the wall for Biz, at the moment we're looking at:

Kemba/Roberts

*Henderson/Troy Daniels

MKG/Barnes/Taylor/Hairston

Marvin/Zeller/Vonleh

Jefferson/Hawes

-Factor in Pick 9 and now maybe 1 ok signing and it could be somewhat not depressing.

Yeah, I don't see how this would affect Biz...   And after seeing him outperform Jefferson when playing time was equal, we would be idiots to part with him and have nothing to show for it.  Hawes is a shooter..   Not much else.  He does not displace biz.

My friend said he was watching a breakdown of the trade on TV and he said they mentioned that we may waive Barnes AND buyout Hawes.

I could actually see that happening with Barnes.  Didn't realize how old he is too.  We could do that and he could retire.  (If that's possible). I may have been reaching with the Biz comment.

Edit: The more I'm reading, the more it sounds we're waiving Barnes.  Only 1 mil is guaranteed if he's waived by July 1st.

Per reddit source:

By all indications, Charlotte is going to waive Matt Barnes and his partially-guaranteed for $1M contract. That means that with this trade, all they are acquiring is Spencer Hawes and an additional ~$1.6M in cap space this season. For the following two seasons, though, they are losing $6M+ in salary cap each year.
