Falcons have released former first round pick Sam Baker

This could be an interesting idea, actually. Baker had a really good 2012 season but has struggled with knee injuries since then. I wouldn't have an issue bringing him in on a "prove it" contract - if he healthy, even as a backup he'd be better than Chandler.

That's all fine and well, but don't you think ATL would have kept him to do the same thing?

I think he ripped his patellar tendon last year. They drafted Jake Matthews to replace him. This doesn't really change their team...but it may change whomever picks him up. Like maybe the 49ers or the Bucs. Who knows but it won't be a game changer that's for sure.

That's all fine and well, but don't you think ATL would have kept him to do the same thing?

think about it

They're going to save $2.7M in cap space this year by cutting him post June 1st.  He had a $7.3M cap hit.  He was making WAY too much to justify keeping him as a backup.
