Talked to my coworker...  He said he and 2 kids were in the middle of 2 sharks bites swimming yesterday...  He had no idea what was going on until later.  My other coworker said the 2nd bite happened right on front of their vacation home.

The first kid attacked was by the pier - supposed to be over 100 yards away according to the rules as far as I know.  The second kid was 2 miles away.  That isnt stupidity.  Thats just bad luck.

As I mentioned earlier - less than 2 years ago I had a friend attacked by a shark probably a bull in Holden Beach - no where near a pier.  People need to accept the fact that when they go in the ocean they are at risk - it is pure chance - you can minimize your chances of getting attacked by not swimming in deeper water or late in the day or near people fishing but it does not eliminate the chance of attack - it happens sometimes for no discernible ( to us ) reason.

Really feel bad for these kids. Just a bad deal all around

I'm at cherry grove right now. But will not be  swimming anywhere close to a pier. I just go out far enough to cool off occasionally after laying on beach drinking beer all day.

Cool off or urinate? Both?

This is exactly why I never go into the water unless I am in the gulf of Florida. I hate 'dirty myrtle' which is what I describe really any east coast beach. Mud colored sand, poo ton of sea weed, foamy brownish green water...lol. Don't get me wrong, I am going to the beach this weekend. I love the smells and walking along the ocean at night. But I will not go in that water, dirty myrtle, and beaches in Cali are not what I call swimming beaches and baffles me why anyone else does either.

In Florida, the water is Crystal clear like a pool and you can see right down to your feet and at least 20 yards all around you. You can easily spot even Jellly fish from yards away. It is only oceans like that I will go into. If a shark really wants you, even clear water isn't going to save you but dirty myrtle beaches scare the crap out of me.

Also FYI, best thing to do while being attacked by a shark is the gouge it's eyes, they're easy to find and they'll always let go, it's their weak spot.

Unless the hand you're wanting to gouge with is attached to the arm the shark is slathering with mayo and mustard and enjoying for lunch....

As for the, "I won't swim in the ocean because of sharks..." crowd. All of you should stop driving and never go outside when it rains because you have better odds of getting into an auto accident and getting struck by lightning than being attacked by a shark.

Or if sharks chewed and gnawed at you.

Ever seen how a shark strikes? You're not going to have time to gauge eyeballs, or hell, even breathe in time from when he bites until he's gone.

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten.
