Bull Sharks bite 2 teens in 1 hour at Oak Island, 3rd Shark attack in 3 days

heres a pic of the world record tiger shark ( 1780 pounds ) caught in Cherry Grove near N myrtle beach from a pier - the NC state record tiger was caught by the same guy from a pier in Oak Island NC just a couple of weeks before and was only slightly smaller.  People have no idea how close they are swimming to these big fish.  If they did they would get out of the water and stay out.

WRAL started their report with...

"A pair of vicious shark attacks..."

The sharks were not being "vicious"... any shark attack will appear "vicious" due to the damage done, but blaming the animals? LOL

I rarely swim in the closest oceans anymore, or even wade out more than my hips... You can't see in NC's coastal waters, and there could be all kinds of dangers lurking... Especially near the buffet lines known as piers...

The one attack was well away from the pier - 2 miles.

I was just at Oak Island swimming last week - I dont get in the water for very long anymore since a friend of mine who is a surfer was shark attacked at Holden Beach a couple years ago - her foot is still messed up and she is still in pain.  She was no where near a pier or anyone fishing.

I love being in the ocean I'm from upstate New York and when I come to NC for the summer I love going to the ocean, especially to get in the water. All the beaches from where I stay are about the same distance ... I vary between Wrightsville, N. Myrtle Beach, and Ocean Isle. / Holden

Hearing about these attacks lately is frightening I've been swimming in the ocean for years and have thought about sharks but it really never stopped me from swimming and letting the salt water make my skin look good as heck and getting a way better workout than running .. I would be at the beach today but the news lately has scared me and why go to the beach if you cant swim

I've never really swam close to a pier and I hope that's the only reason these attacks happen, because the swimmer is near a pier, if they truly were close to a pier .. I cant fathom being bit by a shark, but I also cant fathom not swimming in the ocean ..

Sharks have evolved into the ocean's apex predator through millions of years of evolution. Don't wanna get bitten? Stay out of the damn water. Sharks only kill roughly 3 humans per year in the entire world. Humans kill millions of sharks annually. Sharks don't view humans as a threat or food source. Because if they did those numbers would be way higher. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they haven't figured out that humans can't move worth a poo in water and are the easiest meal in the ocean. It's their feeding season. When they are in feeding mode they bite at anything and everything. To take that boys arm clean off it has to be a decent sized bull or tiger shark. And the girl was on a board, which was probably mistaken for a sting ray by a bull shark. There are literally thousands of 2-6 ft "sand" sharks up and down the east coast anywhere you go. If you are in the ocean, they are all around you. Black tip, yellow, etc. Dozens of species. There are big sharks everywhere, too. Just last week a 1,200 lb female tiger pinged 50 yards deep into an inlet at the Outer Banks. And two separate 1,000lb+ tigers pinged less than 30 yards from shore. There was also a massive great white roaming near shore recently in NC. And those were just the ones with tracking devices. There are dozens of massive sharks close to shore up and down the seaboard. Most folks would quit getting in the water if they saw aerial photos of shores that show just how many big sharks cruise around and just how close they are to humans in the water. They are always around. And both of those kids attacked were swimming around a pier. That's just stupid. People fish off the pier. They also clean fish on the pier and dump the carcass into the water. And occasionally at night folks illegally dump chum off piers. All that poo attracts sharks. But even without humans around the pier naturally attracts sharks. Barnacles and other organisms grow under the pier. Small fish eat barnacles. Big fish eat small fish. Small sharks eat big fish. Big sharks eat small sharks. Human limbs flopping around in water is an easy target, whether intentionally or mistaken as something else. If you're gonna get in the ocean stay the hell away from piers. At least 100 yards, preferably even further. And don't swim out 50 yards. If you're up to your waist you're already a sitting duck, whether you realize it or not.
