Davis thinks his extension will be done before Training Camp

From the Observer (Person): Davis anticipates contract extension before camp

Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis preemptively told a reporter Thursday he didn’t have any information on his negotiations on a long-term extension.

And while the talks have not yet produced a signed contract, Davis remains hopeful a deal will be finalized before the start of training camp at the end of July.

“Sure, absolutely. That’s why we’re working on it, to try to get it done,” Davis said. “We’re not just working on it to say we’re working on it. I feel like it will be something that will be done probably before we go to camp, but we’ll see.”

Davis has averaged 77 tackles a year since returning from the third ACL reconstruction on his right knee in 2012. The Panthers drafted his likely successor when they took former Washington linebacker Shaq Thompson with the 25th overall pick this year.

But Davis expressed confidence Thursday that the Panthers would present a fair deal.

“I feel like they will,” he said.

Be nice to know when training camp starts...I don't remember them taking so long to announce it...

Does this means TD gets his deal before Luke?

They've been at this for a while.  TD was always going to get his final deal before Luke got his extension.

I thought we weren't going to deal with Luke til next season, then KK and Star 2017, so on and so forth?

Someone reported after Cam's big signing (PFT?) that Panthers would try to sign Luke next so we had both cornerstones locked up. Before news of Cam's deal broke, we were hearing that the Panthers were trying to extend TD, so we were surprised that the Panthers were now focusing on Luke instead of TD. Like what you said, next year Luke and Norman, then year after KK, Frank Alexander, and maybe Star(not if 5th year option exercised).

You've got a train set, I know, who doesn't love trains. You have taken ownership that train. You have built, over time, one pretty dang neat 4x8 mini train city. Most of all though, you have loved that train. When you look up in horror as your little brother, running through the house, slips and slides into the corner of your table. All because your dad said "Hey honey look, hard wood floors. When did we get hard wood floors?"  Thanks dad. I may never own another train again. So think of that when I ignore your azz Sun.. Runs to cry.

Then hope like hellz  TD can keep Shaq at bay for a few more years. Otherwise, that train is headed for another cliff.

Anyone heard anything about what the holdup is? IMO, It's two things.  First the time frame. TD feels really good right now. He is just grateful to be playing at this level, and helping his team win games. The Panthers may want TD to give them a time frame, allowing them a better chance to replace him. TD may be unwilling, for whatever reason(s), to name a specific year he wants to walk away. Or two, money. Although, that would surprise me. Unless, they are far apart. Gman offering 2-3yr deal for 15mil, and TD wanting 4yr 30mil.

What is TDs value nowadays? Keek looking like double digits. How far behind, if any, is TD?
