Don't be shocked if Bersin is kept in favor of Cotchery. He has been getting more first team snaps. 

Are those first team snaps legitimate snaps, or evaluation snaps. Gettleman has said in order to properly evaluate a guy you have to put him with the first team. So are those snaps just to determine if he has a roster spot?

​He is out there with Funchess and Brown most of the first string snaps. 

It isn't evaluation. I am sure Boykin or Hill would trade places with him in a heart beat.

Ok that's what I wanted to know. I don't care who the WRs are. Just want the best group on game days.

​I just think he has, he will always have a great work ethic and everything.  But in the end, I think his ceiling is where he is right now.  He has trouble separating vs taller and talented corners.  If he finds a way to get that separation, he could have a higher ceiling.  I just don't know if he'll ever be able to do that.  We shall see.

I hope Bersin breaks through this year and becomes the slot receiver we need. We need him to become a Ricky Proehl type of player. Proehl had this innate knack for finding just the right spot in the center of a defense between the linebackers and safeties. A place where you had an open moment to catch the ball before you got plastered, sort of like the eye of a hurricane. Luckily Bersin has just that guy to teach him now.

And while everyone is writing off Cotchery (myself kind of included), Brown isn't exactly a lock for an active roster spot. And Ginn is getting long in the tooth with nine years in the league. Should someone else start lighting it up as a punt returner in training camp, you might see Ginn looking elsewhere for employment.

It's still early and these guys haven't been working in pads or 98 degrees with no shade. Someone we're not even expecting might emerge before this is all over with.

​I've been thinking we may keep 6 this year given the abundance of WRs (12) on the 90 man roster, though that might only happen if Webb is released.  I assume KB, Funchess, Brown & Ginn are all locks.  It's going to be a very tough battle for the last 1 or 2 spots.  

Cotch & Bersin play a similar role as possesion receivers.  Obviously Cotch has the added plus of being a veteran to coach the rookies.  It may be hard to keep them both.  I'm really not sure whom to route for.  If Hill does well and/or if Byrd shows a lot of promise (meaning he might be picked off the PS) it's going to be nearly impossible to keep both Cotch & Bersin.

I'm cheering for Byrd. Jeremy is high on him, and I see why. His elite speed is tantalizing and if he can catch the football in stride, it'll be damn hard to catch him.

As a gamecock fan, ive seen Byrd in action alot. He can be an electric player. I don't ever remember saying, "Damn he shoulda caught that." Instead I found myself saying, "damn, if that ball had been put in the right place..."

I really hope he beats out enough people to make the top six. He would complete our receiving corps. Benji the redzone threat, Funch the Swiss army knife, Brown and Byrd the burners/screeners, Bersin/Cotchery the slot/3rd down possession receiver, Ted Finn the specialist, and Olsen+Dickson the intermediate threats. Not to mention our mutli-faceted running game. 

OMG I'm hyping myself up... the league should prepare its anus. Its gonna be an exciting year of Panther football.

Our very own Ricky Proehl managed to play 16 years of NFL football without being a remarkable athlete and got a ring out of it, too. Not saying Bersin's the next coming, but it's not impossible for him to be, either.

I'd weight the argument that he has trouble with tall, talented corners with the fact that Bersin is not (should not be anyway) our first receiving option.  He needs to be a guy who likely isn't going to be matched up with the best (or even the second best) corner on an opposing defense because we have other options on the field.

Taking that into consideration then, even if he has reached his ceiling, isn't it enough for him to be a 3rd or 4th option on a given play?  At that point you need a guy who can catch what's thrown to him (13/20 last year I think?), has an idea where the first down marker is, and who your QB is comfortable throwing to in a pinch.  A big body who is willing to fight for a catch is helpful.  I think he's that now even if he doesn't get one ounce better.

​You're right. Only thing that matters is where you're drafted. Guess we're in good hands with 2nd rounder LT Jonathan Martin then.

​Sounds like a typical evaluation of a white receiver..No speed but a great work ethic..
