Up Tempo

Recommended Posts

Don't confuse up tempo and no-huddle. I'm 100% for no-huddle, but we shouldn't be too up tempo. Ball control is a good game plan if you had a great run game and defense like we should. You can run the no-huddle and still be a ball control offense and not too up tempo.

Up tempo and good defenses rarely work. I rather see a defense that causes turnovers and a offense that has a short field than up tempo. Up tempo is when your defense is swiss cheese and you have to score.

Don't agree.   A good defense and an up tempo offense puts more points on the board and forces the offense to become one dimensional.  The defense goes on a frenzy and the game becomes lopsided.   Just look at the Atlanta and N.O. games last year.  We scored quickly and often and the defense clamped down and the bottom fell out for Atl and NO.

When the Panthers have run the no huddle, 2 minute drill type offense, no matter who was at QB (well ok, When Jake, Cam, even Moore) the team always excels. (or so I believe I've seen)

I believe it was the No huddle that got us back in that game here in BofA against ATL... then they decided to run it to position a long FG.

If we kept at it, I think a chip shot FG woulda won that game. But, they pulled on the reigns.

We already know it works. We need to use it to the teams advantage, IMO.

The same thing happens when you get the ball on your side of the 40. Up tempo has its place but it's clear with teams like Philly that it wears down your defense. The Coryell offense is a vertically attacking offense. Quick strikes happen and have the same effect while giving a defense a breather.

I think this is what most are missing.

No huddle?!? But where would i get my Panthers news??

In all seriousness I agree with what mist others have said. Cam excels in an up tempo offense. I'd like to see more of it, and once we get a good lead coast into the shula ball control offense and let our running game play-action and defense do the rest.

Agreed.  The Coryell approach can put up quite a bit of points, if your offense is decent, without having to go up tempo.  Mixing huddle/no-huddle when the situation dictates, would be ideal.  I have no issues with our team's approach on offense.  I enjoy ball control, and smash mouth offenses.  The only issues I have, is some of the situational play calling.

I swear I remember that falcon game we got down field so fast and as soon as we crossed the fifty shula literally, well, shula'd lol. I know I'm not the only one who notices when cam doesn't like a play call his body language explains the play before it happens. That's probably is one of my bigger knocks on Newton but to his defense and our dismay the play calls where absolutely atrocious and I would call it right after the huddle breaks Smh
