Should I go on a two month tour around the world on a cruise ship

I got asked to play guitar with the BB King Tribute cover band - tour leaves in one week, I get flown to Europe and hop on the boat, I'm on it for two months and I play 6 nights a week.  All sorts of covers and BB King stuff.  I'm the only guitar player so I need to be on my game.  I'm not sure I'm good enough.  It's so last minute and I have a week to cram in 78 covers.  It pays like $900 a week for two months so that's decent.  But I have to quit my day job that I've had to 4 years and have insurance and 401K an poo like that and come back home without a job.  I have some savings so I could be alright but it's a huge decision.  I don't have kids or a wife or girlfriend to hold me back so it's as good a time as ever to do something like this.

But on the flip side of it I have a band I've put my heart and soul into that I'd have to cancel like 5 gigs for, maybe disappoint the band.  Who knows.  I'd also be alone on a cruise ship for two months.  I think I'd get sick of it after awhile.  You do get to stop at ports and stuff so it could be really fun.  But after two months I'd get home and be like, what do I do now?  I'd have to search for a temp job if I wanted to keep doing the cruise thing, or get a new full time job.  I'm really torn between this.  Help me make a decision.

Try talking to your boss, explain hat's going on, see if you can get a leave of 2 months. A bigger problem would paying your rent and utilities while your away.

But you could have a career on a cruise ship. Don't poopoo that away.

Yea I sent her a text.  I only found out yesterday night and they want an answer ASAP.  I'd fly out at like the end of the week.  It's a last minute thing for sure.  The regular band got caught with marijuana crossing a border in Europe and they're all in jail.  So they have to throw a band together last minute for the next leg of the tour.  Crazy poo.

Ask your boss for two months off to do something you've always wanted to do and will only have once chance to do so in your life.

If they say yes, then go for it. You'll have a job when you get back.

If they say no, then they really don't care about your long term happiness. Go on the cruise, live the life and see what comes from it.

If you love playing Guitar more than anything in the world and this is a chance to grow as a musician than I would consider it.

But losing your job to work on a cruise line probably isn't the best deal in the world. Most cruise line employees are from other countries because the pay and working conditions are not great. Although entertainment is a very different type of work.

It might be a rare chance for you to leave the country but you will be working.

It goes back to my first point, if you just love playing music. It's a chance to improve yourself. But it probably won't improve your finances.

So I talked to my boss this morning and she said it shouldn't be an issue to take a two month leave.  I called up the trumpet player who told me about the opportunity and left him a voicemail and a text saying if the job was still available that I'm good to roll.  Haven't heard back yet - maybe it's been filled.  I'm sure they asked some other players.  It's a tough sell though, getting someone to go on a two month tour on a weeks notice?  Damn.  They are desperate because the band they have got busted trying to smuggle weed across international borders - I know what I'm not gonna do!  hahah
