Charles Johnson moving to Right Defensive End

Is this the worst article ever written on ESPN? Who is this guy? No wonder they have him covering the small market Panthers. He doesn't know poo about football.

Heh, not even close.  This article would be Pat Y's crowning achievement. Bad article, but Newton is usually decent.

said it many times before and i'll say it again.

newton is a good writer with very little football knowledge and is really a poor source of information as to what is going on in the organization. he's not someone you want to pay attention to when he is reporting on stuff in practice or in games because i don't think he even watches or knows what to look for in those moments he does watch and has to ask the other media guys who knows what's going on.

newton is a talented but lazy writer.

i'm no fan of person, but person >>>>> david newton.

David Newton talks about a possible switch from the left defensive end spot to the right in the article below. Newton says that Charles has lost a step and that it makes sense to move him to the right side so he can go up against a less athletic RIGHT tackle. He believes this can help replace Hardy's production from the quarterback's blind side.

Unfortunately, Newton's logic is flawed since moving Johnson to the right means he is going up against a more athletic LEFT tackle! He clearly does not understand that attacking the blind side means you are going up against a left tackle.

Yeah, Newton doesn't know what he's talking about.

Until the end I would have agreed with you.  Person is a bad writer AND knows nothing about football.  Newton >>>>>> Pat Y >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Person

People forget that CJ came into the league when he was 15 and is only like 23 now.

Dude is in his prime and just battled injuries most of the year last year.

15=19 and 23=28 tomato tomato (guess that saying doesn't work being typed)

I'm gonna assume everyone here knows that the right defensive end actually goes against the left tackle. Correct?

If Dave Newton is reading that, you'd be wrong. These are his words:

"At 28, he’s not as fast as he was when Carolina selected him in the third round of the 2007 draft. That’s not a knock on Johnson, still at 6-foot-2 and 285 pounds the leader of the Panthers defense. But a lost step makes it tougher to get around the opposing team’s left tackle, who often is in the 6-5, 320-pound range.

Moving Johnson against less athletic right tackles might create more opportunities for him to get to the quarterback."

Time to left swipe left-hand turn obsessed former NASCAR writer Dave Newton. He's just not right.
