Cord Cutters Sound Off

I was curious if there was any streaming service for the Hornets and Panthers in our market of Charlotte?

I want to drop att. Every year its the same you threaten to leave, they offer you a too good to be true deal and your bill changes every damned month you have to call and fight over some BS charge.

However I have a fear of losing my Panther games. Channel 46 doesn't come in great for me over the air and I'd prefer to have those another way.

And of course the hornets are on foxsports south which usually comes on a cable plan with a sports tier. Id love to give my money to anyone but ATT/TWC to watch the Hornets.

You're basically screwed as far as the Hornets go. I know because I'm in the same boat. I saw more games in person than on television this past year. Maybe the only thing you could do is get NBA League Pass and then mess with your IP address to make it think you're not in the Carolinas. There are probably other illegal streams around, but I'm not privy to that.

Cutting the cord has worked out okay for me so far this year. I will echo that Sling TV sucks. It was clunky and I just hardly ever watched it. TWC won't get off my back, though. They call about once every two weeks with new, exciting offers.

Wife called Directv yesterday so she could find out the exact day that our contract is up, and they gave us $20 off per month on top of the $15 per month discount we were already getting.  She didn't mention anything about leaving, but they know.  Won't stop us from leaving, but that extra $60 in our pocket over the next 3 months will be nice.

26 year old my gf has two kids 3 and 9. Haven't had cable since about 2011/2012. My current setup is a chrome cast in the living room, and the bedroom. A old roku in the kids room. I have Hulu and Netflix. Kids use hulu A lot lately since they picked up a bunch of cartoon network content. I use both but the gf uses hulu for her tv show fix. For ESPN etc I use my sister's log in for watch ESPN in VA. Just log into my Xbox or my chrome cast and I'm good. I get the major networks on the antenna and just pay $35 a month for internet from TWC. I can't imagine paying $100+ on TV now, I can find anything and almost everything I need on those three apps

That's not what I meant. After all the cable companies get switched over to digital (which is 95% complete) they are going shift their attention to having OTA frequencies shut off. They are already working on it legally. They will petition with the FCC and have it killed. Fox and CBS have already floated around the idea of killing it on their own without being forced to stop by the FCC and cable companies. Verizon and Comcast will shut it down. OTA signals can interfere and disrupt police and emergency responder signals and communications. OTA broadcasts will be completely killed the exact same way analog cable signals have been terminated.

Over the air is not going away any time soon. The companies that own the own the over the air frequencies know how valuable they are. Why is it valuable? With all our electronic mobile devices, we are running out of bandwidth to fit them on. No more bandwidth, no more new devices. The cable companies know this... the 200MHz that over the air companies own could get them billions.

To give you some perspective on this, the FCC is already trying to buy some of over the air up - if you give up your over the air channel to the FCC, you get a hefty share of the profits that come when the FCC auctions it off (almost exclusively to mobile companies). The reaction from the broadcast companies has been 'meh'. They are waiting for the upcoming bandwidth crisis and will make a killing selling it off.
