Alarming stats of QB performance after signing their mega deals.

Recommended Posts

So I have heard a lot that when QBs or any player for that matter signs a "mega" deal, the following year they/the team struggles. So I went and dug some numbers up and here is what I found.

Joe Flacco

Andy Dalton

Colin Kaepernick

Matthew Stafford

Jay Cutler

Tony Romo

win/loss record of these teams the season following these QBs signed their mega deals..

Joe Flacco-8-8

Andy Dalton-10-5-1

Colin Kaepernick- 8-8

Matthew Stafford- 4-12

Jay Cutler- 5-11

Tony Romo- 12-4

Combined team record of these teams one year following their QB mega deals- 47-48.

Of the 6 QBs only two of them made the playoffs following their new contracts.

Now lets look at QB ratings of these QBs the season before they signed their mega deal and the season after..

Joe Flacco; before 87.7, After 73.1

Andy Dalton; Before 88.8, After 83.5

Colin Kaepernick; Before 91.6, After 87.4

Matthew Stafford; Before 79.8, After 84.2

Jay Cutler; 89.6, After 88.6

Tony Romo; Before 97.7, After 113.2

Out of the 6 QBs, only two saw an increase in their QB rating after signimg their mega deal. Now you might be wondering why I didnt include Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady and frankly while Cam is great he is just not Brady or Rodgers level.. I feel currently that Cam is in the class of the QBs listed above moreso than the GOATS like Rodgers and Brady.

Where are the alarming "stats" regarding QB performance mentioned in the title? QB ratings, really? Looking at, and judging wins/losses in a vacuum while casually and completely ignoring the contributing factors which lead to those records, like players leaving, coaching changes, scheme changes, injuries, starting rookies who are learning on the fly, etc is pretty damn pointless.
