WFNZ's primetime w/kris Kroeger sucks

First, sorry you don't like the show. It's sports radio. We won't bat .1000. We're trying some different things and still tweaking some things. We have some home runs, we have some whiffs. Whatever, that's the way it goes. I hate generic, cookie-cutter sports talk. It's tired, it's trite and it's stale, but it's easy to do in my industry and so many others continue to ride the same worn-out track to wherever they want to go.

I've said from day one that I want to have an intelligent show with an intelligent audience. I don't put up with stupidity or BS. Period. Callers, co-hosts, guests, whatever.

And, yes, we don't talk just sports. Our demo is males 25-54. Males who are males like me and many on here. They watch sports, but they listen to music, watch TV, watch movies and actually have a life outside of a box score. We talk everyday life. Again, may be funny one day, not as much the next. Every show isn't going to deliver at the same level every single day.

I brought up race, because so many others continue do so passive-aggressively. I had numerous callers yesterday and a more than I can count over the last 12 months that call Cam a thug. Cam has never once done anything that could be perceived as thuggish since leaving Florida. He's a model athlete and pro. He dresses well, stays out of trouble, gives back to the community, is well-spoken (when not mixing up his cliches) and carries himself in a way we should all be proud. So, when someone calls a man who has never once in 4 years done anything close to deserve that label, I call it for what it is. Code. Most that call Cam a thug really want to use another word. Use your imagination.

I didn't call Kaep a thug, either. What I said was, look at the two for how they carry themselves and the things they do off the field, and it's shocking that Cam is the one that gets labeled a thug. I'm not saying Kaep is, what I said was that if anyone was going to stereotype, it would Kaep who's deserving of the label.

I don't think there's anyone doing sports radio better than Dan LeBatard right now. Nuanced, intelligent, ridiculous, rarely breaking down games and often talking about anything other than sports. It speaks to a generation of millennials. A generation I'm a part of. That may not appeal to you, but that's what we're after.

For the record, we had incredible reception yesterday and today for the honest, thoughtful and passionate discussions on Cam and the Panthers yesterday.

And this my friends is how you shut up a hater. Chris is a breath of fresh air. We FINALLY have a radio host in Charlotte that cares about our teams because he is from our town. I am tired of blow hards that root for some other team ripping our home town franchises. Keep on keeping on Chris!

Kroegs (can I call you Kroegs?) has given new life to what was otherwise a borderline-unlistenable time slot, no names mentioned Marc James. I look forward to listening every day after work. And I think it's great to talk about pop culture and news as well as sports. I'm a big Jim Rome fan, and sometimes he talks more pop culture than sports and it's hilarious. Who wants to hear 3-4 hours of the same regurgitated sports stories?

Chris is a big time talent and the Carolinas are seriously fortunate to have him here. I hope you stick around Chris even when bigger and possibly better opportunities arise.

Can't please them all. The fact that you guys put on a good show in May, June and July speaks volumes. It is a sports wasteland between college basketball and college football during those months around these parts.

Well, thanks. To be honest, I actually enjoy all the other things around sports more than the games themselves sometimes. The politicking, the egos, the storylines. I don't really enjoy breaking down guys' mechanics or how a game played out and I suspect most listeners don't either. Now is a great time of year to be able to delve into all of the other things going on in sports we normally don't have time to break down from September-March. I brought it up today, but that Dwayne Wade and Heat story is fascinating and has implications for Thomas Davis and the Panthers.

Or we could just preview the Panthers depth chart or discuss whether Cam is elite, right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what disappointed me the most with the show today was rather than spending our time celebrating the fact that we signed cam to an extension, the focus seemed to be on racism. I don't get it. Does race ignorance exist, sure...should we give it a voice? Should we allow it darken our happy day? I don't think so. If that think is retarded or idiotic, so be it.

I LOVE hockey. I wish we talked more, but we're not on in Raleigh anymore (our ratings were actually taking away from their local show) and my Hurricanes are so said right now.

Really? Man that sucks. Yeah the canes are bad but I'm sure that'll change. I just hate how much of a drought hockey info, shows, discussions are in Charlotte. I wish we had the hurricanes here that would make me soo happy

Kroegs has kind-of taken off. Friends have always called me Kroeger, but Q and many others have run with that. I like it, so feel free.

Thanks for the nice words. I'm not going anywhere, don't worry. I grew up here and was so stoked to come back home. I spent the last 4 years living in Winston-Salem (underrated town by the way) and had been looking to come back to Charlotte for awhile. There's a reason so many transplants live here. Not very many towns in the country claim NFL, NBA, being in the heart of college football and basketball country. There are way worse places to live.

Serious question...are you white?

As I was reading that I was gonna bring up LeBatard. I've never listened to your show but I might now. To me LeBatard has a genius about him. The show is highly entertaining. Certainly strives to not be trite or typical sporto. He's who I listen to on my way home.

If you scan this site, you'll find plenty of 'non-football' talk, even from the uber football fanatics like me.

As much as I enjoy a good discussion on the nuances of West Coast vs Coryell vs Earhardt-Perkins, I can also easily get into a discussion about Clay Matthews' haircut and the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

So basically, I don't see why anybody who enjoys the variety of topics we cover on this board should whine if a radio show covers a little 'extracurricular' content.

No doubt. Dude is the best. What he's doing on TV right now is getting even better with their Fusion simulcast. I listen to his podcast religiously every day...we've tried to glean some ideas and topics from their show. And there are definitely days where LeBatard could be construed as whiney, but he's self-deprecating and smart. Some days you're crying for four hours listening, others it's awkward and just meh, but when you consume it in the grand scheme, it's always good.
