Andrew Brandt on D.G and the deal

I remember 2010 and thinking that this mess will take a miracle to turn around..  Never did I dream that it could be fixed in five years with a future this bright.  Just think back to that horrible team.....and the prospect of  continued success that we have now.

Wow you mean a GM came in and said the situation was kind of a mess and that he'd clean it up while retaining core players? He also said he wouldn't overspend on dog poo like Hakeem Nicks and that he'd do all of this on his own timeline. That GM managed to win back-to-back division titles working with very little.

All the while most of the fans hate the guy every time a fifth tier FA isn't given a brinks truck full of money?

Color me shocked.

Brandt who has been the money guy for the Packers (and has been involved in almost every aspect in NFL contracts etc.), thinks Gettleman has totally changed the  direction of this franchise. He says the fiscal restraint D.G. had shown in FA and contract negotiations has laid the ground work for many years of success for this franchise.

He also has worked with Cams agent Buzz Cook before and actually agreed to the first 100 millon contract in the league for Brent Farvre. The agent for Farvre was Buzz Cook. Brandt thinks Cam got a good deal and the contract is in line with the going rate for  a franchise QB. Bottom line is that our GM is top notch and is highly respected In the league for his abilities and team building plan. Dave setting the new standard in this league for how to do business.

Oh no...the secret is out. Football according to Dave is a real thing.

Dave didn't invent fiscal responsibility. Nor did he write the book for changing the culture of an Org. He probably isn't the first to use talent, mental as well as physical, evaluation as a primary tool in recruitment. I'd be wiling to bet, he is not even the first to stick to his plan and find success. He doesn't have a magic trick up his sleeve. Cuz his sleeve is rolled up.

The only difference between teams run by guys like Gman, the contenders, and the teams run like, well, pretenders? The contenders follow their plan and stick to their guns. The pretenders? Not so much.

So this is how well run franchises do bidness. You put a knowledgeable, savvy football guy in charge, and get out of the way.  I think I'm going to like it here.

As long as Dave is enjoying the process of building this franchise. Let the man work.
