Game Comments - Preseason vs Steelers

I agree with most of it, but I disagree on a couple of spots:

I think Hayden should be challenging for and used as the UT, not the NT, and he'd not only be much more effective, but our line would improve overall imo. He has the push to get into the backfield, but not enough weight to hold down the run-stopping gap. I've never been all that impressed with Lewis to be honest, and I'd like to see how well the line would look with the Leonard in at Kemo's spot, and Hayden next to him. Too bad we're outta preseason to see how it would pan out.

From what I've seen so far, I'd say Moore has outplayed McCown in every aspect. Honestly, would like to see us cut McCown and put Moore as #2 with Cantwell at #3. I'm not so sure his experience makes up for all the high throws and inaccuracy I've seen from McCown. I also don't blame Moore at all for that interception. It wasn't Fiametta getting blown up on the play, it was King. He had the guy in a choke hold, and still got beat back into the QB. With no where to go in a collapsing pocket, his arm got popped at the last second before the throw, causing the duck pass there. I place full responsibility on king there, not Moore. His throws have looked crisper, quicker, and more accurate than McCown's too, so I felt he earned the #2 spot tonight.

Leman for sure... if he doesn't make the team, I'll begin to wonder about Fox. That kid has good instincts that take years to learn. He's a beast imo.

Incredible catch by Rosario tonight. His problem hasn't been hauling in amazing catches though, it's been that little word that has plagued our Panthers for years now... consistancy.

I thought Monk had an overall better preseason than McMahan. I'd stash him on the PS first.

I'm hoping K. Smith is PS eligible. Would hate to see us lose that guy, as he's been the best of the 3rd stringers imo.

I like Lee's rushing style better than Birmingham's - PS if he can be stashed there. He seems more of a N-S runner that can get between the tackles for a couple of yards, rather than dance around too much. Also seems able to bounce it outside if need be... I like that in a runner.

Fiametta did well this preseason.. in a couple more years, we'll be fine when Hoov retires.

Wasn't that high up on Munnerlyn when we drafted him, but I've liked what I've seen so far from him playing defense. Returns... ehh.. not so much.

Speaking of which.. Crossman better whail on these guys this week in practice. STs looked like dog crap tonight. Shot ourselves in the foot all preseason with the TOs. We had like 12 now? Rediculous amount from a Fox team that had Chuckie raving about our Fox coached "team that'll be ready" with "hardly any mental mistakes." Love Gruden in the booth, but man, he was off with that comment.

finally, Geico... hasn't had a decent commercial yet. Dumbest poo ever... still can't believe they wanted to make a series out of the Cavemen stupidity. I don't even like the Gecko crap they spew out.

I'd agree with that. He's not truly a 0-tech guy. Never was. Far as I can tell, he got the spot because he was the best available even though his build and skill set don't support it. That, plus they might believe the change in scheme would work in his favor.

I thought it was King on first look too, but on replay I saw a 42 rather than a 47. I'll go back and look again to be sure though.

Gotta disagree on the QBs. I see the depth chart largely unchanged from last season, and in what limited time Cantwell's had I haven't seen anything that made me think he's worth cutting someone with actual starting experience to keep.

Leman for sure... if he doesn't make the team, I'll begin to wonder about Fox. That kid has good instincts that take years to learn. He's a beast imo.

I originally had us keeping Monk too, but changed my mind of late. I still think any receiver that winds up on PS could wind up being a guy from another camp.

Agree with all of that except I take Birmingham over Lee.

And yeah, "Cavemen" was crap.

Dont forget the reason that Jarrett looks "slow" is because he is 6'5

Goodson is Smiths size, so he has a shorter base and will LOOK FAST AS HELL.

At 6'5 Jarrett's stride is so long it just makes him "LOOK" slow.

I think he will do fine.

Don't cover up for Jarrett, he didn't produce at all when Smith was out. The Panthers basically gave him the job and he still failed to produce.

On a semi-related note, it's absolutely ridiculous that I have wait until SUNDAY to watch this game.

I'm with you, I believe some games are being replayed again even before this one is on for the first time. Sheesh.

But Mr. Scot's notes will give me things to keep an eye out for.

Just a note, my mom's a Steelers fan and Logan and Redman have been tearing it up all preseason so it really wasn't surprising to read that on here.

I haven't read this whole thread, but my comments on last nights game:

Goodson and Moore looked good. I'm excited about our offense.

Larry Louis Leon Leonard got pushed around when he was in.

Can't wait for Phily game!!!!! We will be fine.

Speaking on ST's, I think the Panthers made a big mistake in not re-signing Mark Jones. He was not the fastest guy, nor did he put fear in the opposing teams, but he was reliable. Every one of the players that tried to be a punt returner this preseason has fumbled at least once. This can be a huge problem going into the season. Still not sure who 'won' the punter returners job.

I know Jarrett's IQ (or lack there of) has been an oft discussed topic, and last night reminded me why. There was a smoke route to him where he had a clear shot to spplit two defenders to gain 7-8 yards and he instead does an odd looking spin move for no apparent reason and gained about 3-4 yards. Then there was the no looking back for the ball when he was in the endzone. Hmmm.

mark jones = ricky manning jr.

rule change will make him obsolete.

he needed the wedge to be effective.

without the wedge returners now have to be a whole lot faster and shiftier and able to skat in the open field. jones was slow.
