Proehl high on receivers. What else would he say? It's Tongue-in-cheek. Relax, pansies!

Surprise, surprise! Coach Proehl "talks up the talent in Carolina", per PFT.  I mean what else is he going to say? Let me tell you. I will read between the lines and tell you what he could have wanted to say, but couldn't.

“We’re going to have to let some good players go,” Proehl told ESPN. “It’ll work itself out, but as a coach, if I can’t be productive with what I’ve got, then that’s on me.”

What he could have said:

I finally have a half-way decent pool of receivers to actually put an NFL-ready wide receiving corps on the field on game days. Dave really did a number on me last year sacrificing my group on the alter of the business side of the football gods. They are a great bunch of guys, but unfortunately some are going to have to go, but that's just the nature of the beast. I am just so relieved to be in this position. Now, I can actually smile, take some responsibility and espouse the company line.

“We’ve got every weapon in our arsenal,” Proehl said. “I look around my room and you’ve just got not just really good football players, but good guys that work hard, that study, smart players. From a coaching standpoint, it’s exciting that you can go out and really coach.”

What he could have said:

Man, I've actually got some guys with above average potential, and some with some actual seasoning as opposed to the circus last year. Now I have a mostly young and hungry squad that I can mold without the hindrances of bad attitudes and larger than life egos.  Unlike the last couple of years, I can actually play to guys' strengths, and I am free to actually coach as opposed to babysitting.

Alright, Coach, I get that you're happy and relieved and all that, and I hope that your optimism, as well as everyone else's---including my own---is fully warranted. Let's all pray that the talent that you see and envision comes to fruition on the field, and meshes well with some new-found machinations by an equally optimistic Mike Shula (pushed along a little by Riverboat Ron).

i'm not sure what else we want from our WR group. KB is a proven talent who can go toe to toe with the best and biggest corners in the league, Corey is also proven and bigger and faster and swagged out, Hill is immensely talented and has had the focus and the drive to make the team and be the threat he was made to be, Funchess is a giant intelligent stud who is going to have favorable matchups to gain confidence and produce, Ginn is a home run threat on special teams and on offense and he is back in his comfort zone with Cam and Ricky, Boykin, Cotchery, etc. are good dudes that are team oriented and willing to work wherever they can.

Who else do you want as a WR? No team has something we don't have.

Other coaches could have easily said that they would like to have a top performing veteran come in, or simply that they still aren't quite where they'd like to be with the roster. It's on him, and I like it.

Remember the Corey Brown of late last year, when he started to "get it" and play fast without thinking? I think people will be shocked at the play of Brown this year .. He will have a stand out year.

Then you have Stephen Hill, Hopefully a full year under the teaching of Proehl will bring out the true 1st round talent, I know its OTAs but I like the sounds coming out about Hill.

I think all the critics will be shocked with the Panthers passing game this year.

I really hope it all works out and we get to see these lineups

KB, Brown(slot), Funch --- 3 wides

KB, Brown(slot), Funch(slot), Hill -- 4 wides

Wow, top dawg, I bet you're always the life of the party.

You seem like so much fun to be around.

God forbid a little optimism, right?

You are putting a lot of your words in Proehl's mouth. That's just not cool. If you have opinions, then give them but don't pass them off as Proehl's.

I realize that there is a disconnect between what is said and how things are actually taken on the Internet, but I guess that you missed that the OP is mostly tongue-in-cheek. Proehl is very happy and should be after enduring what he has had to endure for the last couple of years. The corps was basically gutted and started anew last year, partly in order to move us to this point this year under a healthier cap situation. Dave Gettleman said something to that effect after the season, referencing making sacrifices last off-season in order to get us back cap healthy.

I am not putting words in Proehl's mouth as much as I am trying to get into his head. The whole thing is like the segment on ESPN when they say "He said this, but what he really wanted to say is..." So, chill out.

Tiger, I guess you missed the part where I admitted my optimism as well.  also guess that you also missed the thread after the draft where I mentioned that we should be highly optimistic being that we finally drafted another legit receiving threat in Devin Funchess. And you are intimating that I am a stick in the mud...

Chill.

why does everyone like to blame Dave because he didn't fill our roster with 53 HOF players in his first two years? patience, Doggie-San. The roster has improved every year DG has been here, and will continue to do so.

Why do many huddlers seem. to forget what DG said in one of his first press conference? Just paraphrasing he said something to the effect it was going to take him three years to get the cap situation straightened out. This is year 3. Someone correct me if im wrong?
